Hi there!

These past few years, some of my favourite projects has been to make video logs of some of my shotgun deer hunts. This year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to make another, so here it is, flaws and all:

Hope you enjoy it....I can't wait until next year when I get to take my oldest daughter out for her first deer hunt. If I'm lucky she'll consent to me bringing the camera along and instead of me hogging all the glory (and inevitable criticism), maybe you all will get a glimpse of a young lady's first big game hunt.

Until then we'll set to practicing with both her shotgun as well as her new rifle....can't wait!

Cheers, and thanks for watching,

Brobee

Excellent camera work and great follow up shot on the last deer. Do you think you would have made that good for a shot with a rifle or was the pointability of a shotgun helping you out?

Interesting load none the less. I do not like shotguns when I have the option to use a rifle but it's evident that you have practiced sufficiently.

very nice video. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy trying different guns/calibers each season.... adds to the thrill.

Very nice video Brobee! enjoyed it. You are a helluva shot with that shotgun. I have used hevi shot for geese and turkey it is exceptional in performance and high price!! Your evalution of the hevi shot double ball load was very informative and well done!

I miss your videos of your girls hunting and cooking. Keep up the good work.

Happy New Year,
Bull

That was a very good video. I appreciate your ethical and analytical approach to the hunt, as well as your technical competence with the camera and editing. Great job. I'll be watching more.

An interesting question! Almost all of my rifles are scoped with low power variables - if I had the scope dialed down to 2.5 power when I took the shot, it's possible I could make a running shot with my rifle. If they are dialled up to full power (seems like they're either set on as-low-as-possible or as-high-as-possible...never anything in between!), I doubt I'd be able to make a running shot like that. I don't think I ever would though...the reason is that I practice tonnes with my shotgun out at the sporting clay range so have a decent experience based map of various leads at shotgun ranges with projectiles travelling at shotgun velocities. I have no idea what the lead map would look like for rifle work, and I don't really have the means to practice this.

For sure a rifle is a better choice that provides much greater flexibility; I'm sad to write that I get a bit bored rifle hunting! Also, after our rifle season closes, we have another "primitive weapons" antlerless season where shotguns are allowed...it's my favourite season and gives me something to practice for in the months leading up to it.

Thanks for your note and encouragement, hope the new year treats you well.

Cheers,

Brobee

Appreciate your kinds words! The girls and I have a couple of hunting and cooking adventures planned...I'll show them your post and maybe they'll let me bring the camera along.
