I bought a shotgun about a year back, because, well, you gotta have at least one. And it was my first gun. I went to a local gun shop and looked at the "less expensive" shotgun and rifle rack, and a particular one caught my eye. The tag said 12 gauge 1933 Remington Model 11.

"Hey cool" I like old guns, lots of blue and walnut and character. So I left with it. Not the best gun, not the best deal in the world, but I like it. More importantly it fits like a glove, which is important for a tall (6'8") guy.

Now, it came with a fixed choke barrel, which was a full choke. I am thinking I want to use it for dove this year, but I need a MUCH wider barrel, like mod, or even cyl. So I get to thinking, and I see a recent thread about another Remington Model 11, and he has a nice picture of the remington roll-mark, and the words "Model 11" on there.

I think "hey, mine doesn't have that" how weird, right? So I come home and look at my shotgun, and lo and behold, not a manufacturers mark on the whole thing! The only identifying marks are the five digit serial number, and the word "full" printed on the barrel, next to the reciever.

What the heck is this gun? So I am putting it to you, dear readers, what do I have in my closet? Some possible clues are: It will only load shells when the button directly below the cocking lever is depressed. Also, the safety is inside the trigger guard, right in front of the trigger. And the top of the receiver has some nice squiggly lines, rather than just straight ones. Other than that, it is free of embellishment or decoration.

Thank you for any insights.

It could be a gun manufactured by another company on the Remington platform. I have a Shotgun that is a Ted Williams Model 300 but it is actully a Winchester 1400 straight down the vent rib.

It's a Remington Model 11

Only three manufactures made this John Browning design , Browning,. Remington, and Savage. Yours is the Remington Model 11 , not all of them were marked up with model numbers and such. They were made from 1905 ? I think - until 1947 with some variation in markings throughout that history.

That is a Remington Model 11. You may be able to find an extra barrel for it, or get screw in chokes installed if you really like it.
Dimension on that gun are not at all unusual, so finding another shotgun that fits shouldn't be too hard. Anything else is going to feel different at first after handling a humpback, I will caution you on that.

BTW... just noticing your pictures here. Appears to me you bought a nicely kept model 11 for its age etc. Treat it well and it will last for years. Congratulations!
