I recently picked up a Stoeger Outback 20ga o/u and I need something that will allow me the use of both hands while out hunting. The shotgun's overall length is only 36" and its not by any means heavy to carry or difficult to maneuver with, which is the whole reason I bought it. But often while hunting I need both hands free to help climb steep hills and work through the thick brush. I do not want to install studs for a sling so I thought a scabbard would be a better choice. The problem here is that most are made for full length shotguns and would encase the Outback completely. I'd like to be able to just quickly grab the gun from its case if need be. So I guess im looking for something more like a holster I could strap to my back that would fit the Outback to keep it in easy access. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a product that's close to what I'm describing?

Thats pretty much what Im looking for, just in a shorter version. This one would only leave the butt stock sticking out the top, I'd like to have the grip exposed. I guess I could modify one to fit. Thanks very much for your input.

looks like your gun would always be getting in the way, not to mention looks too much like a purse. Its not for me.

Wow, "The OLD way" looks pretty good in those pics, but everyone in "The NEW way" pics looks like they're saying, "You're kidding, right?"

With the straps and buckles needed to hold it in position it's slow to get into action and holds the gun in such a way that it could hardly be MORE cumbersome. Doesn't offer any protection to the gun. And, with your hands (and, thus, your mind) free to concentrate on other things, I can only imagine how much damage the muzzle and buttstock are going to take as you inadvertently hang up the gun on everything around you. At least if you're securing it with your hands you have constant control of it.

I don't see a long life for that product.
