Anyone else catch A Prairie Home Companion on NPR tonight? It's a folk music and humor type show, for those who haven't heard it. Anyway, one of the guest performers sang a song by that name, basically about a girl in a poor family who decides to decorate the Christmas tree with shotgun shells because they couldn't afford anything else, and how pretty it looked. I liked the perspective, especially on NPR. Don't think SWMBO would sit still for it on our tree, though!

Didn't catch it tonight, but I usually do. I know Garrison Keillor is a hardcore leftist, but I just ignore the political crap. Some of the musical guests (especially the youngsters) are very impressive.

Yeah, they had a great Irish band tonight.

Couple weeks ago Keillor was talking about the troops overseas and recited that whole quote about "We sleep safely at night because rough men...." He may not like Bush, but his heart is in the right place IMHO.

Just had my synapse go off (some would say brain-fart).

Take a string of outdoor lights and attach alternating red and green empty shells so that the light glows thru. Might have to drill out the primer pocket a bit.

I have the shot gun shell X-Mas lights hanging on my back porch in Cali all year round... the tree huggers next door noticed and complained, but they moved and they went right back up :neener:

The shotgun shell Christmas lights are available from www.twelvegauge.com. A friend of mine gave me a set the other day, I haven't put them up yet but they are made from authentic Remington hulls.

Keillor makes me ill. He is always making fun of people like me. He does it in a very non offensive way most of the time. I however get his drift and resentment he tries to smooth over in his presentation style. I know he is a foe not friend. I rarely laugh instead I sigh as it is more of the same elitist tripe hiding under the guise of a folksy good guy facade. He is not near as smart as he thinks he is.

I agree ... he's a leftist elitist urbanite who likes to make fun of the "rubes" who are too stupid to live in the big city or vote for Democrats.

Disgusts me that my tax dollars go anywhere near the SOB.

But the Christmas lights ... I like 'em.

Yes I do to. Cabelas had them. Heard Keillor today making fun of fundamentalilsts (Christian that is). All done in a lovely talk about the great fair in Minnosota. He even said the fair was a great democratic gathering. All kinds of folks there of coarse. Ya'll come back now ya hear.:barf: :barf: :barf:

You could always put a shotgun shell on a dead branch and if anybody asks you can say that its a "cartridge in a bare tree".

:D

:uhoh:

:scrutiny:

Well they tried but the RINO's balked. Much pressure from MOYERS INC. I actually saw MOYERS state he was a Conservative. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.:barf: :D :barf:

He was out here last summer doing a show..just a hair left of Carrot Top in my book......Personaly I got the idea the is a rude obnoxious city prick.

If you're interested in the lights, Tractor Supply Company (TSC) stores are carrying them cheaper than Cabela's (no surprise). No comment on leftist leaning commentators or vegitables. :D

Take Care,
Mike

SWMBO bought me a little 3' tree this weekend with lights and ornaments, I promptly stuck a few empty shell casings on some of the branches. She thought it was neat and wanted me to bring her a whole bunch of empty shell cases to make something out of.

So, what's so unusual about shotgun shells on a tree??

I've got a tree in the living room that's up year round. The garland is a mix of red wood beads spacing shotgun shells. All the ornaments are outdoor stuff...little fake fish, boats, hunting hats

if I could ever figure out how to post pix, I'd take some. My wife is a pretty high end girl and she loves it

I've seen those for a while now at local shops in town (Guthrie, OK). There were strings with many diffrent colors available, IIRC, so if you want a multicolored set, go shoot up some Fiocchi (purple, orange, etc). :)
