HI,
I don't know if this is the right forum or not but here it goes. I was recently given an shotgun and 3 boxes of shells from my dad. I know the value of the gun but a friend of mine says that a collector might be interested in the 3 boxes of shells. I am looking for an approx. value of the shells.
They are Brand New in the origional boxes(only one has ever been opened). The things look like they just came off the assembly line. Discription is: Western super X Mark 5 with the added marking"all new plastic". Quanity is 25, 12 gauge, 2 3/4", max.load 16 pellets, 1 buckshot.
I have a copy of the origional sales receipt dated aug.1967.
Thanks for the help.

Some here may have some info about when plastic shells were first avaiable. But if my memory serves, the first I used were remingtom power piston plastic 12 guage in 1962. Winchester shells were available around about the same time.

As to the collectors value of your shell, the actual shells themselves aren't what collectors want, the boxes are. Buckshot shells like that haven't changed over the years. Win. still makes the same compression formed casing, the load MAY have changed some. Mark-5 referes to the shot wrap plastic/paper strip surrounding the shot column.

Full boxes in original condition with original shells fetch the most from collectors. Go to a gun show with them in a boxand try to find a dealer to get a value.
