Shotgun slug reloading

I've been shooting the 7/8 oz Lee for years but don't know if any slugs as light as 250 unless you are talking about sabot systems using 50 Cal bullets. Maybe a little more info would help us help you. I've been loading 12 and 20 with five different design slugs since I was a pup.

The standard 12 gauge slug is awfully short to begin with and if you shorten it more you might as well use a round ball. Wads are no problem as the standard rs load uses card and fiber stacked to whatever length is needed for a good crimp. What are you trying to achieve and why?

This. Just use a round ball.

By my calculations, a 12 gauge round ball is well over an ounce. 7000 grains per pound divided by 12. You're going to have to find a really short lead washer to get as light as you want. They do make reduced recoil slug loads if that is the problem.

The foster slug drag stability only works for that shape when the length to diameter ratio is ~1.4-1.7 time longer than its diameter. If you make a slug shorter or longer than that ratio they usually become unstable unless you do something like attaching a trailing gas seal or similar to add stability.
