by police if ever confiscation enforced? I hate purchasing a gun through a dealer because the government can track you.

Yeah, but what if it's ATF agents putting the gun in the classified sections so when you buy it, you think they don't know, but really they do know, because they are the ones who sold it to you, so they would know.

I do not fear buying guns through reputable dealers and background checks etc..... That is when the prices are right, or if I want to put something on Layaway.

I like to and will buy through private transactions when I can. There are a couple of reasons I do this beyond what you mention.

-I can get the story on the gun straight from someone who has actually used that particular gun. In some cases I might even be able to test it out.

-I can usually get a better deal. Not have to pay taxes etc......

-I am sure there are other reasons. It might just bring someone a little bit of comfort to know that they have a gun that nobody could trace back to them for any number of good or bad reasons.

Edited to add:
Private transactions are perfectly legal in my state. You might want to make sure they are legal in yours before going through with it.

Always get a reciept from the seller. If you find out the gun is stolen, you can get your money back with one, if you can find him again....

If there comes a day when "they" come get your guns, it will be to the extent that one more or less won't matter.

Anyone who can be identified as a "gun nut," say, anyone with more than a hundred posts here, will be subject to special methods. Once they have a gun to the head of my wife or child I don't think I'd be holding out the SKS I got through the paper.

That's assuming they don't just kill me out of hand. The idea that totalitarianism on the scale of overturning the Constitution to such a massive degree will be satisfied with just what's on paper or will have scruples about "making sure" of any extras is, to my mind anyway, the kind of middle ground thinking contrived to allow for the "last stand" fantasies we all hold so dear in the national mythos.

I believe it's worth having a few guns that aren't known to the great white father, as well as a bank box or two.
As long as were on the subject, doesn't it require a social security number, or at least photo id to rent a safe deposit box?

Oh, and spiff, some of us have slender nimble fingers that dial quite well, thank you
thank god for phones with the large buttons. :D

I'd be more worried about getting a gun that was stolen than having it traced to me. So far, I've only bought from dealers, or people I know. Not to say that won't change, but that is my current safety level.

Who cares where you get your guns from? So there is a 4473 somewhere with your name on it. Big Deal. If you live in a state with legal private transfers, claim you sold it to some other person.

As bad as this country is right now on gun rights, we are a looooooooong way from forced confiscation of firearms.

Yes. And the same goes for those private mail boxs and USPS boxs. If you order from a company like FAC, Inter Ordinance, Tapco, ect, you have been identified as a person of interest. And if you post on the internet, even one time, "the Man" knows where you are. So don't worry, "they" already know who you are.

Got nothing to hide so I don't really care if I buy from a dealer with a piece of paper so the evil elected officals we put into office can track me down and stampede my house in the wee hours of the morning or if I buy private sale so that I can be an invisible renegade with no viable trace of evidence as to my gun-owning existance. ;) :scrutiny:  :uhoh: :neener:

You really worried?

Do you really think the day will come when they our Goverment will ask for all firearms to be turned in? :uhoh: I have heard this fearful item being discussed for over 50 years. :) And it's not happened yet and I don't give it a chance of ever happening. ;) When you buy a firearm from just anybody anywhere you need to ask yourself where they got them. Myself I have no problem buying from a dealer and doing the paperwork. :)

I always wear those funny glasses, the ones with the nose and moustache, and speak with a fake accent when I buy a gun. Can't be too careful. Missed a trick on the tinfoil though. Maybe I'll make me an aluminum stetson.

"Yees seenior, I hav venty dollar bills fur deisen goon, ya you betcha."

If the seller's doing the same thing, you can be pretty sure they're not an agent. Those guys haven't caught up to this strategy yet.

I bet the odds are alot better that you end up with a stolen gun, than the government ending up with your gun. I have no problem buying from private parties, but hiding a gun or 2 or 3... from the law is not the main reason for me. Right now I feel we are a long way from that in the U.S.A.

... as well as a bank box or two

The government knows all about your bank boxes. If they decide to come after you, the first thing they do is freeze them. A bank box is the last place in the world that you want anything important.

Funny, when I sell a gun to a private party, I write up 2 copies of a bill of sale with the buyer's and my name, address, and signature on it (off their driver's license). I figure it protects both of us - he can prove where he got the gun, and I can prove who I sold it to should the gun ever go astray and the ATFfolks come a callin'. I don't do anything with it other than keep it in my gun file.

These days, I think it would be a rare seller who would not ask for ID from a buyer. The buyer could be a killer, rapist, bank robber or even (worst of all) a TV reporter.
