Should exemptions from state carry laws exist for those in high risk industries?

Why do we have to live in fear of these things? Why cannot the law and the rules serve to protect us, or at least allow us to protect ourselves?

Authorities say the driver of an 18-wheeler has been found shot to death inside his truck at an abandoned gas station just off Interstate 26 in South Carolina.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers says officers found 35-year-old Jason Rivenburg of Fultonham, N.Y., after someone called 911 early Saturday morning and reported the tractor trailer just off exit 136 on I-26.

Summers told WLTX-TV that investigators think Rivenburg stopped to rest when someone robbed him. The sheriff says Rivenburg's wallet is missing.

Authorities say Rivenburg was shot several times and could have been dead for more than a day."

On the radio report they claim the killers got $7 cash. Should there be nation wide exemptions made for those of us in certain industries? I realize that exemptions should not be necessary, but it would be a start!
How many truck drivers in here see a growing concern for our safety, considering the economic situation? Considering the lack of safe places to park(rest areas closing, truck stops becoming RV stops, walmart saying no to trucks...) I do, and I have decided to start carrying in my truck. The carrier I lease to says no, but I would rather be alive and have to find a new carrier than be dead and never make it home to my children again. Input please.
 
no... everybody should be able to carry, if they're not violent convicted felons(or certain other felonies IMO), not nutty(in a bad way), etc...

At the very least i think possession of a concealed pistol without aggravating circumstances (i.e. drug-dealing, previous convictions for cetain crimes, assault, burg's, car thefts or prowling) should be at most a gross misdemeanor...

I.e. Chicago; the self defense rule there (if you use a firearm, illegal firearm, in defense of yourself, you can't be charged with possession, etc)...

In NY if you shoot someone with a unregistered pistol, right or wrong...
 
He could have had a gun. SC law states you can carry a gun in a closed compartment, ie. glove box, console. I know he was an intrastate truck driver and probably been illegal in other states.
 
One day these Drivers will be armed.

We used to run high dollar loads as a team and always kept moving, that was our only salvation. I think we put away 1350-1600 miles each 24 hours stopping only for fuel and only for a few minutes with a once per month halt to shop provisions in the Laramie WY wal-mart.

Just sitting still gave me heart pain because everyone walking by the warehouse fence was a potential threat. If they only knew about the Pharms in that trailer.

But one day, that nonsense about not being armed will stop. It has to.
 
Should be legal for everyone, no exemptions for special members of society.

"Shall not be infringed."
"Keep and bear arms."

Seems rather clear to me.
Don't allow state or federal infringement as the Constition says and nobody will be unable to defend themselves while traveling the nation.

But yes I agree, we should ALL be able to carry what we want, when we want.
 
Yes, we should all be able to carry all the time, but do not expect society to make the leap all at once. We must utilize the tactics used against us and chomp away bite by bite. The driver was from NY, probably didn't have a gun. Too difficult to obtain a permit there when he's always on the road. Just my MN permit was tough, as I never knew when I was gonna be home and could not schedule the class.

The 14th Amendment is pretty straightforward in refuting the idea that 'some animals are more equal than others.'

Why not just follow the 2nd amendment and be done with it?
