Hi all

I'm looking at purchasing a new pistol this week, and I'm leaning toward the new Heritage Rough Rider .17HMR. There's a pair for sale at my local dealer for $210, which seems pretty reasonable for a new one.

I already have a main carry gun, and a backup gun. This purchase will be specifically for fun and plinking, and I've heard good things so far.

So: Is there any reason I SHOULDN'T get one (ie mechanical failures, etc.)

And, should I get the Pearl-type grips, or would that be too pimpish?

Thanks,
Justin

My dad has one in 22lr/22mag. It's a decent enough plinker. If you wanna try out the 17hmr cartridge, this seems like a cheap enough way to do it.

YES buy it...I have 2 customers (father and son) that recieved one each for Christmas and they let me shoot them (LOVE those type of customers!!))...The action isnt as smooth as say a Ruger out of the box...but it is well worth it for the money and will tend to smooth out after a few hundred rounds downrange...and lets face it the money you save buys you alot of ammo!!:D

For under $300 you can get a Ruger Single Six in .17 HMR

With the Ruger, you should be getting a rock-solid product from a very reputable brand name. After-market parts, grips, accessories will be readily available from numerous sources. You should have no trouble finding your pearl grips (or better, faux or real ivory) for the Ruger.

And, should you later decide to sell or trade it, it should hold its resale value considerably better.

Sure, it's a wee bit ($210 vs. maybe $280) pricier short-term, but I'd definitely think that the long-term benefits would be worth it.

As Mr Alaska cautioned: "penny-wise and pound-foolish" is a dangerous path to tread.

But, whatever you get, let us know how it works out.

MV, he's getting a pair of Rough Riders for $210.

You're doing good to find good condition Single Sixes for $280. Around here, they're ragged out junk at that price.
