should i buy a sig masquito?

Before you do, you should really cruise on over to the Sig forum and do a search for Mosquito. Pretty interesting reading really.

It may not be one of Sigs best efforts.

Chris my i have a ruger p95dc i don't know if they have a kit for my gun.Chuck i'm gonna check out the sig forum. Thanks guys.

From everything that I've heard from a number of different sources - the answer to your question is a resounding 'NO'.

I'd suggest a Buckmark instead....

I did a little research i dont think i'm gonna get one.HERE IN CALIFORNIA THEY SELL FOR 469.00.i Might look at a ruger mk3 they want 259.00 nib.It won't have the same feel as the sig but i want reliability more tha anything.

I'm in agreement with the rest of the guys that the mosquito has been overrated just because it's a Sig. And for the price you can do better. If you want a .22cal for your wife there are several good alternatives. Already mentioned is the Walther P22 quite inexpensive. Ruger has several models to choose from too. What would she like to try? Maybe she can give you some ideas.

I was going to purchase a Mosquito a few days ago and the shopkeeper talked me out of it. It appears to be a nice, little gun; too bad it doesn't live up to its billing.

I bought a new Mosquito and traded it for a Trailblazer after the first time I shot it. I love my Trailblazer.

In that case, probably the Walther P22. It's small, light and loads of fun.

The other 22's out there may be better quality, but weight becomes a factor and frankly who wants to hold up a heavy 22 handgun?

Might also want to consider an older, used Ruger 22/45 with a 4" barrel. The MkII models have a better grip and less lawyer stuff. Plus they make a speedloader for the ruger mags that's pretty slick.

EDIT: You can find a good used one for about $200.

NO

We had a Sig Mosquito in the family for about a month before we traded it off. It was okay, but didn't eat everything we tried to feed it. Maybe I'm spoiled by our Ruger Mark II, but the Sig wasn't a "fun" gun .22 to go out and shoot a brick of shells.

Snoogens

Was looking at a Mosquito, as I am a big Sig Sauer fan. I own a P6, which is a flawless 9mm carry weapon. The guy behind the counter (he knows his ****, and I have total trust in his opinion) said that the Mosquito was an "ammo picky" gun, which is bad considering how non-uniform .22lr ammo can be. A better alternative would be a Walther P-22, which is about the same price, but eats up ammo like oreo cookies!! Also the Walther is more ergonomic and fits way better into your hand, especially smaller hands. Again, it is a pleasure being on a forum where I can learn from so many expert people.....thanks for being here guys!!!

Everyone said I needed to own a 22lr because they are cheap to shoot. I jumped on the bandwagon and did the research. Buckmark and Ruger. They were the ones to buy. Everyone trashed the Sig Mosquito. I went to the Sig forum to find out why. When they first came out many did not perform well at all. Some did; many did not. They have fixed the problems encountered. Most of the bad reports still making the circuit are about the older generation Mosquitos. They are talking fact, but about a different generation firearm. That used to be the facts. Others have never even held a Mosquito, or fired one but heard someone talk about them; I guess that makes them experts. Read what the owners of the newer Mosquitos are saying; most of it is positive. Just like any other firearm out there: Most of it is positive. That is what I bought: a new one (Last January). Mine included no problems. 1500+ rounds through it so far with only the occasional FTF, which I attribute to rimfire ammo. One of the nice features of the Mosquito is the DA/SA trigger. This allows you to refire that pesky round that doesn't fire on the first strike. It's a nice feature.

So here's my take: The Ruger and Benchmark are definitely quality firearms. I am not interested in that type. I wanted something that resembled a firearm that I might use for more than plinking or target shooting, even though it does that too. I really like the decocker on the Mosquito. I have used CCI Mini-Mags and Remington Golden Bullet Bulk Pack (525 per box) ammo with no problems. I am not concerned that it doesn't shoot every brand of 22lr. There are plenty of firearms on the market that just do not like everything in their respective calibers. Such is life. I did not buy a 22lr for SD, so the inherent misfires that come with shooting 22lr do not matter. I simply pull the trigger again, the Mosquito fires, ejects the casing and shoves another 22lr in the pipe. As for one gun feeling better in your hand than another: that is the starting point. If if doesn't feel good you should not even be considering it, unless you know for sure that different grips will make all the difference. I chose the Mosquito; it felt perfect. I have other firearms for self defense in larger, center fire calibers. Good Luck to you in your research and purchase. Let us know how you do.

Liking the Sig line, I bought a new Mosqito about a month ago. I had heard that it was ammo sensitive, but it digested the Remington Golden bullets fine. I've heard it loves the MiniMags, too.

My issue with the pistol is the trigger. It was horrendous, but I've read that it gets better, as with most Sigs, over time.

If I could get $175 in trade in value, I'd get another Ruger.

YMMV.

I have a Mosquito with a few thousand rounds through it and I haven't had near as many issues with it as I expected. It gets a bad rap from people who don't take the the time to treat it right. It's a very nice little practice gun. I get the occasional jam when the gun is dirty, but what Sig doesn't? It likes to be clean and wet. I hear some guys have tried dry lubricants and grinding down the feed ramp but I haven't tried any of that. Just clean it as normal, and blast it with Breakfree. Even the most high quality ammo will sometimes produce a misfire, due to the nature of rimfire - just drop the hammer on it again. I've never had a round *not* go off the second time.
Yeah you could buy a Ruger or a BuckMark, as they are clearly superior, but they are typically far more expensive depending on where you live. If you can get a NEW Mosquito for cheap, I would have no fear.

No, get a Ruger (and a p22 would be just as bad a choice as the Sig).
Use the search feature, also look in rimfirecentral and you'll keep yourself busy for hours reading about folks bad experiences with these pistols. Good luck with whatever you get. A .22 is a ton of fun to shoot.
