Should I feel guilty?

I have mixed feelings on my first bolt gun. I traded a nice handgun for a Mossberg 4x4 in 30-06 (the model with the skelotonized stock:barf:). That was before I did some research and fell IN LOVE with a Winchester Model 70 Sporter 30-06. Am I better off to just keep the mossie, and try and make it work, or would it be worth it to get the Winchester? Obviously, this is strictly opinion based, but maybe some of you will bring up something to consider that I didn't think about. Thanks all,

Don't feel guilty.

If you don't like it, sell it and get something that you do like and will enjoy shooting.

Life is too short to feel guilty about buying a gun. This is about the point where I convince my wife that while I already have a 30-06, a Winchester Model 70 would be a really good investment.

I would have gone with the Winchester off the bat, but if the Mossi works, keep it. If not, then trade up.

i'll be back to the US in about a week, and soon after that, I'll be able to break out the mossie and see what kind of groups I can get out of it. I'll give an update

Sell the Mossberg and get what makes you happy.

I am in a similar boat as you. I have a Winchester 70 Featherweight that I love, but only shot it once. I rarely hunt and have other rifles to take with me. I need the money right now but I don't want to part with my M70, that I don't use.

i fondeled a few featherweights as well, and that's a fine piece. if you decide you need the money more than you want to keep it, let me know ;)

If you're already having regrets about getting the Mossberg then you'll most likely never be satisfied with it. Get what you can out of it and buy the M70 that you really want. If you're married, just tell the wife that all your friends at THR said it was okay. :uhoh:

LOL! I'm gonna use that one next time and see how that goes

I'm a Winnie fan and would have gone that route from day 1....

I guess the main conflict with it is whether or not to be practical. However, practical doesn't always satisfy. I'd just hate to take a bath on the mossie, cuz I know I won't ever get $500 back out of it. ....:banghead:

The only problem I have when buying a new gun is the wife saying "so which one do I want?"

Normally, my answer would be "if you have to ask..."
But guns are tools. You can enjoy your time with them, but they're still tools. You wouldn't keep around a drill that drove you batty; you'd go to the local hardware store and pick up a better one with more torque/longer battery life/whatever.
Keep looking until you find something that you enjoy shooting.
