Should I make an offer on this little .32 S&W?

I am required to go through various annual courses, including participating in mock domestic violence scenarios, spotting concealed weapons on persons/in vehicles, etc.

This year and the year before, the instructor was using a small J frame S&W .32 Long revolver as the "concealed weapon on estranged husband/TRO violation". I was able to give the revolver a good look-over and found it's as tight as a drum. I remember asking him last year why he wasn't using an ASP training aid or some such device, though I don't recall his response. I do recall being under the impression he wasn't too attached to his S&W with the indication he was thinking of purchasing some Airsofts to add some spice to the works.

Would it be considered uncouth to make an offer for this much abused (yet in amazingly good shape) revolver? I was thinking of offering to supply him with a realistic blowback gas-gun first before offering to purchase it.
