Ok so I am far from an expert or big enthusiast.... :)

But... I've had this SKS for a while and never thought to ask if this is the way it should be...just assumed. Anyway, it's an SKS that I installed an ATI pistol grip stock on. Now where the bottom of the reciever (I think it is...) goes into the stock is where the most play is. I can hold onto the stock and then grab the gun and wiggle it back and fourth, maybe....I dunno, a 1/4 inch or so of play....could be a little more.

Is this normal? Or should it be tight? And if it's supposed to be tight how the heck do you make it so? (I just installed when I got it and that was it...no special fitting or anything).

Thanks! :)

No, it shouldn't do that. The ATI stock doesn't fit well. You're probably going to have to shim or glass bed it. Or just put the original stock back on.

Hmmm ok. Any info. on how to go about shimming it? And I do not know what glass bed it means.

Don't even have the original stock... :)

Thanks!

Wiggly reciever

Make sure your new stock has the spring installed under the rear of the trigger gaurd. It is about 3/4 of an inch long and about 1/4 inch dia. I installed an aftermarket stock on my SKS that did not have this and the reciever was very loose. If you have the original stock look at it and you will see what I am talking about. Hope this helps, if not I'd stay with the original stock.

Glass bedding is a method of using epoxy (they used to use fiberglass) in between the gun and stock to mold it, form fitting the gun to the stock. Do a search here for 'glass' and 'bed'. You'll find lots of info.

I'm not sure how handy you are with stuff like that, but that's the method I would use. I did it to a Choate stock on an SKS. It fit very nicely. However, if you don't do it right, you can permanently bond your gun to the stock and never get them apart.

I agree with 7mmsavage about the spring. Check that first.
