Looking for a high quality leather shoulder rig with vertical carry for a 1911.

Any suggestions?

I have a N-Frame S & W 625 .45 ACP/AR with the 5 inch barrel
and it is 10 3/8 inches overall length, as well as 45 oz. I also have
a S & W 627 .22 LR 10 shot Cylinder O.A.L. of 11 1/8 inches.and
it also weighs in at 45 oz. I can't see getting a
belt holster for either one so I did a search for exactly
what you are looking for - SOmething heavy duty that
will last,

ALessi Field Master SHoulder Holster - it is made of a
good Heavy Duty leather and is tooled with a basket
weave pattern, it is said to have a one handed draw
as well as a retaining strap to emnploy if you are in
rough country, or climbing, descending. The rigg
is on both shoulders and on the off shoulder it has a
pouch to carry speedloaders or spare ammo in whatever form.

It is made for my 625 but Not for the 617 6 inch - so I
will get the 617 shortened in Bbl. Length by 3/4ths of an
inch so that it could fit in it.

THis is not cheap bvut good quality materials assembled and
created rarely is, it is $200 and change....

If it isn't in stock the queue may be 52 weeks wait...

oops - missed the 1911

Check Bianchi - they may still make the
X-2000 if I recall correctly. I've got a 1911 full size
somewhere in a UPS truck on it's way to me and the
Milt SParks Axiom holster is in the queue - looks like
a Valentine Day surprize for the arrival date.

Looks like the field master is available for a 1911 from what I can find. Inquiries are sketchy at best on how to contact Lou or order one of his holsters.

Seems a years wait is standard.

If you don't need a concealment holster check out the "1942" from El Paso Saddlery (www.epsaddlery.com). Makes a good field holster. They also have horizontal-carry shoulder systems if you change your mind about vertical carry.

Are you totally sold on vertical shoulder holster carry?

I thought I would like vertical over horizontal until I test-fitted a Galco Miami Classic at a gunshow. The only benefit to vertical (to me) seems to be that you can carry a longer gun than horizontal. I'm not that "deep" (front to back) so any gun that I carry in a horizontal shoulder holster must be rather short (I'd say maximum would be a Glock 19/P7M8).

Plus there seem to be many more horizontal holsters available. There is a writeup on Park Cities Tactical that is an excellent overview of the horizontal shoulder holsters available.

Yes, want the vertical. Made a sleeveless T many years ago with a pocket under my left arm for my Kimber 10mm in verticle.

Always concealed well and was comfortable.

Have an El Paso Miami rig and the thing would always print on anything but a real baggy shirt or jacket.

Plus with the vertical I didn't need an extra step to unsnap to remove and I can carry cocked/safety on where as the miami type rigs, you cannot.

I guess I'll make a new shirt rig.

Vertical carry shoulder holster for a 1911?

M7 Tanker Holster without a doubt!

I ordered mine from Pacific Canvas & Leather (http://www.pacificcanvasandleather.com/). Great quality leather and buckles, left/right handed, black/brown leather, US or USMC embossed.

The M7 holster rides comfortably, won't interfere with pack straps, and in my opinion is the classic, appropriate, and ultimate holster for the 1911.

Thanks. The Galco looks like what I want.

Time to drag out the CC.

Added:

Ohen, ordered one off their web site. When I get it I'll post a review if you'd like. Thanks for the heads up.

Now that you've had the vertical holster fow a while got any additional thoughts, likes or dislikes?

Does the holster side tie down?

How is the draw?

I'd like to hear a report also...been thinking about one of them verticles from Galco...

Sounds like I'm too late for you, feedthehogs, but for future reference I have one of the Bianchi X15 verticals that my full-size 1911 A1 fits into perfectly even though I'm sure it wasn't made for it. It spring holds the gun as it has the open front and a retaining snap but I do away with that as the gun stays firmly in place even when running and vaulting fences. Not that I make a habit of vaulting anything much anymore, the ladies say it's not very dignified. :p Anyway it's a tad bulky but conceals well under large winter jackets.

I have a need for a vertical too but rather than highjack your thread I'll start another in here later.
