Yeah yeah we all have our high speed low drag ubertactical undead, ninja, grizzly bear killin' evil give Sarah Brady nightmares firearms but lets take a look at the softer side of firearms ownership, the sentimental side if you will.

What are your sentimental pieces? Is it your first gun, your great grand daddy's shotgun or the Red Ryder BB Gun with compass in stock that you had as a kid?

My most prized is my late Grandfathers "Puppy's" pre 64 Winchester thutty thutty. It was given to him by my late Grandmother and eventually found it's way to me. It shoots wonderfully and is my way of being able to go shoot with my Grandfather whenever I want.

Even cooler is the fact that I also have the original box of shells purchased with the firearm.

Next I have my Ruger Vaquero. Now this is special because Sheslinger surprised me with this one Valentines day. I had been wanting a .357 stainless Vaquero with the white grips for quite some time. She had gone to a gun show by herself, found it, negotiated and bought it for me. This was such a huge surprise because she wasn't really much into firearms at the time and for her to go through all that trouble just blew me away not to mention I was just stunned to get a firearm for a gift.

The last one is non-firing but is still special. It was brought back from WWII by my late Great Uncle. It is a Sauer 1913 and original matching magazine. Externally it is in pretty good shape and the barrel is in great shape. I have looked into getting the parts to bring it back up to spec but have decided to leave it as is.

So whenever somebody asks one of those if you could only keep one rifle and one pistol kind of threads I would have to say that in reality it would come down to that ole' thutty thutty and the Vaquero. They will do everything I could ever need and have way too much sentimentality to ever part with.

So what are yours?

I realize somebody is gonna post a picture of a Glock and that's ok but it better have a really good story. :D :scrutiny: Just kidding.

Very nice Chris. I wish I had a sentimental firearm to show you, but I don't. I think I'm the only "gun " person in my family, immediate or extended. I do have an old break-action single-shot .410 that my father-in-law owned until he died. As far as I know it had no sentimental value - he used it to keep raccoons out of the garden and the trash. Neither of his sons wanted it.

My "sentimental firearm" is the first rifle I've ever owned...a cut-down Enfield No.4 "Tanker". It'll stay in the family for as long as I am drawing air.

My Uncle Kelly's model 67 Winchester 22. He was a really neat guy, a proverbial "dirty old man" that told us bawdy jokes and had nekkid women calendars in his garage. He was a Navy vet of WW2. In his declining years he gave this rifle to me, because out of all the nephews and grandkids he had he knew that I would would cherish and take care of it.
The Winchester is the upper of the two guns in the picture. The other one is another neat old gun, an 8mm Czech Mauser.

Winchester

Model 20. Near as I can tell it was made in the early thirties. It will go to my first born if I ever have children, or first born niece/nephew.
You can take all of my guns, but by god steal my Mod 20....

Hello.

I bought this Model 19 for my dad in the '70's. With his passing, it came back to me.

i would have one of those too but grandpa developed a drinking problem to complement his lung cancer so grandma got rid of it :banghead:. i suppose it was a good move though.

my most sentimental firearm is my first and only. its a ruger 22/45 in stainless steel with a 5.5" bull barrel. it will be with me forever.

I have a High Standard HD-Military with a story.

My father served from '41 to '45. While he was on Guadicanal (sp?) he traded a marines issued HD (it's a damn .22!) for a bottle of pretty good brandy. Later, he was ashore with a party from his ship " to see what all the racket the Japs were makin' on shore" . At about 70 feet or so away a small Jap rose up outa the bushes holdin what looked like a broomstick.

My dad put three rounds into his chest, and down he went. When he went over to check him out, the broomstick turned out to be a old beat up single barrel 12 gauge.

After the war ended, he saw that his new brother-in-law had no pistol, so he gave the HD to him.

About 50 years later, my uncle (the brother-in-law) passed away and my mother gave me the HD.

I didn't need it, so I took it to the local gun show, and allmost sold it, but not quite.

Couple of weeks later I mentioned it to my dad, and he told me the above story.

He passed away last December, and no, I won't be takin the HD to the show anymore.

Sorry, no pic, no camera.
