Today I was at the range and got to play with the various goodies I brough (i wanted to zero my Kel-Tec SU-16B at 25 yards with XM193 ammo, as well as make sure the SKS was zeroed). I was accompanied by a member of this particular range (who suggested we go on Monday) and one of my other friends.
Very fun experience, but there were two "show offs" there. First was a group of relatively young guys (I'm only 22, they were probably 25 or so) with a McMillian rifle in .50 BMG. They let my friend shoot it twice, and offered it to me -- I only put one round, as I didn't want to waste their money. They let us keep the casings, which was nice. Curse them and their gobs of money for having a firearm I can't buy anymore in California! :banghead:
Also, a member of the Berkeley Police showed up and was practicing semi, 3-shot-burst, and full-auto firing with his issued rifle (presumably an M16/M4 variant, though I didn't see it -- very recognizeable sound though). While I understand the range is open to the public and he had authorization from the staff to shoot the rifle on auto, it's still frustrating to have to listen to the sweet, sweet sound of full-auto fire knowing that the California DOJ, in their Infinite Wisdom (
) regards Title II weapons as verboten for us Mere Mortals(tm).
One of these days I'll move out of California (probably right after college, though I'll be going to New York to finish off college), settle down, get a nice job, a wife, kids, a backyard range, and at least one machinegun and .50BMG rifle. It's good having a life plan.
