Got my order in with Tucker Gun Leather for my first holster and mag pouch. Rob was very helpful and returned my calls within minutes, if not seconds.

Also getting a couple belts - 1 1/2" for training and 1 1/4" for... that's right.... wearing with dress slacks.

You heard it here first. I'm getting a barbecue-capable rig.

I'm so excited, I can hardly wait! So help me tide the time...

Post Pictures of your Barbecue Guns & Holsters!

Thanks,

-SvEN

Here's the idea: you don't barbecue the guns.

You wear the guns, at a barbecue. Ideally, with like minded folks.

Well, I've read about it, anyway...

Hey, I've seen something like that on TV!

Think it was a bunch of homeboys in Compton, they were grilling ribs and Glocks were sticking outta their low-rider pants, Mexican carry. Rap video, I remember because I hit the [mute] button posthaste!

Hmmm...

I'm getting feelings of inadequacy. My barbecue holster is a Galco Concealable (for assorted 1911s), a Galco Speedmaster (for the PC13) or a Ross Leather pancake holster (for the P7M8).

Maybe I need to upgrade?

My near-stock Colt 1991A1 with ivory panels by Nutmeg Sports. Holster will be the Alessi ACP or CQC/I.

What I understand it to be is when LE types congregate or go to court they have a ceremonial gun with engraving, plating, fancy grips with bearcats sculpted on them with ruby eyes. You know the type... Sorta like Roy Rogers' pistols.

For extra-fancy occasions I take this Colt Thunderer out. No photos of it in the rig, though. Actually, the rig is very plain. When was the last time you saw one of these that would actually work? S/N indicates it was made in 1900. My father gave it to me last year; he acquired it from an old city policeman, David (Dump) Pentecost in Kilgore, Texas who got it from M.T. Gonzallus, Texas Ranger in Kilgore during the oil boom in the early 1930's.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Hello. These are way too thick and not too comfortable, but I reckon that for show, they'd do.

Best.

A Texan described a BBQ gun to me as "The rig you'd wear at the Governor's Bar-B-Que."
I suspect that the sight of an armed citizen would cause Chairman Locke of WA to have a cardiac arrest. Just as well I can't afford any gussied-up piece anyhoo, as I'd probably ask The Chairman how he could give W any crap about the state's economy with a straight face on national TV when his own policies drove Boeing out of state...:fire: (And the state's economy started tanking well before the elections...)

Tucker Info

Can't wait to post pictures of the final product. It was pretty expensive in the end (equivalent to a couple cases of ammo), but I'm sure it will last forever and having seen Tucker's work first hand, I'm sure it will be worth it.

Here's the breakdown of my order:

---------

*** Holster ***
-HF1, 11 degree forward cant, right handed
-sweatshield
-lined
-color black cherry
-cross-cut

*** Belt 1 - Work ***
-belt, 1 1/2" width, 37"
-color black cherry
-stamping & cross-cut

*** Belt 2 - Casual ***
-belt, 1 1/4" width, 37"
-color black cherry
-stamping & cross-cut

*** Mag Pouch ***
-Angled double
-color black cherry
-cross-cut

John Jardine (of Valtro fame) recommended I see what Tucker could make for me when I asked him for advice for a rig for the Valtro - he brought out his new holster/belt/pouch from Tucker and I was deeply impressed by the leather, especially the patterning, which I later learned is called a 'cross-cut' pattern.

The cross-cut pattern isn't shown on the website, but is shown in Tucker's PDF catalog, available by request from Rob - a Tucker dealer - who is also a High Roader and former TFLer working under the alias 'tonerguy' PM - Email - Website

Seems like very few here have read LawDog's post on TFL on barbeque guns.

Stephen A Camp in on the right track.

IIRC, the barbeque gun is like the firearm version of fine jewlery. Designed to be displayed as an emblem of social status.

Its the opposite of concealed carry.

Not supposed to be gaudy, supposed to be elegant. Like Camp's Hi-Power. And the holster has to be appropriate.

A CCW rig is more like a "court gun". We need LawDog to explain that one for us.

Where IS LawDog these days?

SOME REAL FOLKS AT A REAL BAR-BE-QUE

Jardine's "Barbeque Rig"

This is a Tucker Gunleather set just like the left-handed rig made for John Jardine:

Sven's will be in Black Cherry. :D

The HF1 holster is a tunnel (wraparound) construction with leading and trailing belt loops so it rides the hip like a pancake but will never collapse with time. It is IDPA approved and does double duty as a concealed OWB holster and an IDPA match holster.

The angled mag pouch has been a popular style in Texas because you don't have to break the wrist going for the spare magazine. Many think it results in a smoother mag change.

You wanna see some barbecue guns?

Go to TX Rangers Museum in IIRC Waco. Hundreds of engraved plated fancy wood pistols from Texas' Finest.
