I'm wondering if anyone out there has any experience with using shrink wrap to store guns for long term storage. I have several long guns that I want to keep but don't shoot. They have no real value other than sentimental so I don't spend as much time cleaning them as I should. I was wondering if after a through cleaning and oiling, if you could use industrial type shrink wrap to keep the guns preserved. Any thoughts?

Never done it. As long as the guns were clean, dry, and given a light coat of some form of anhydrous grease and wrapped with desiccants they might be OK

It would likely work but could be bad for the wood. I wouldn't do it with my collection. A gun that's been treated with a long term preservative like RIG and kept in a sock or similar so dust doesn't collect on the surface will last indefinately. I've taken some out after 5 years and they look like the day I put them in. No moisture, no dust...no rust.

I agree with Horsemany. Please do not put them in the attic though. My dad did that and lost several guns due to humidity in the attic.

+1

RIG and a soak have kept some of my old rifles in storage for 10 plus years with no signs of rust or wood deterioration. Add sealing in plastic it, would add more protection from moisture.

Clipper has the right idea, vacuum seal them and they should be good indefinitely. Throw a silica packet in there too just for good measure.
