Ok, say TSHTF, and you need to surivive, bug out, whatever. You will see combat and you will see rough living to survive. Which sling will you se/bring for your main rifle? Would you bring/use a NM sling for more accurate shots on those bad guys far away (to get them out of the reach of their carbines), or would you rather use the lighter and handier weight of the web sling? Both? Which one and why?

I'd use a Ching Sling, no question about it. In fact, that's what I already have on my Enfield. I works as a fine carry strap and lets me sling up for a steady shot very quickly.

I won't pretend to know about rifles or slings, but as a reference librarian I meet a lot of very interesting people and some of them do know about rifles & slings. One of the patrons of my library markets a "belt mounted rifle holster." See it here: http://www.gunslingercorral.com/index-2.html
And, no, I don't work for him.

I use a simple Quick adjustable one on my deer rifle, 1894 Marlin and my Shotgun.
one pull and it is stretched out for carry or a hasty sling and another pull and it is tight for close workor brush.

I'd go for the Safari Ching Sling (see here for details). It's a two-point sling, unlike the original 3-point Ching sling, and I think it offers greater versatility.

Standard 1907-style leather sling.

Why?

It's what is currently on most of my rifles. Besides, it worked in several major wars. There might be better stuff out there now, but at least you could admire the craftsmanship while you were hiding out in a drainage pipe and eating SPAM for months on end.;)

Super sling on Rem 700 LTR. It's not very expensive and I'm cheap. :)

Any good two point leather/nylon sling will do. I don't feel the need to go busting butt inside any tight areas with a bolt action and an SKS. ;)

Hey preacher, I've got an FAL, w/ the xstock as shown here x-stock

Do you think the safari ching sling would work well for this rifle?

I've got a CQB solutions 3 point on my AR, and it would work on your X Stock. They even make one with quick release, so if you're worried about getting grappled, you can get out of it quickly.

I use it to steady for longer shots as well, so despite the CQB designation, it seems to work nicely for a lot of different uses.

Slings get in the way, catch on things, and generally lead one to carrying one's rifle on one's back where it's useless. Rest the thing on a backpack or other uniformly non-bumpy surface for those long shots.

All my "go-to" rifles have the same type...

USGI WWII/Korean vintage OD green web. 1903A4, M1, M14NM, BM-59, AR-15, and 870 Mark I. Boringly consistent and easy to work with. Once I figure out how to attach one to my Bulgarian AK, it'll have one, too. ;)

M1907, Giles, $5 AR Sling, or Ching, depending on the gun. But I just make sure they're covered in lots and lots of tinfoil. :scrutiny:

If the S really HTF - I don;t care about slings....I want more full magazines for my AR, and full clips for my M1, etc., etc., etc. . I will gladly trade you a sling for a Claymore....any takers??

Giles or CQB Solutions 3 Point.

Why? Because in this situation I expect to need my hands for things other than holding a rifle, yet I still want fast access. Also makes transition to sidearm quick and easy.
