Sig 225

Concur, there is something wierd about the P245 grip. It's the only one of the "classic" SIG pistols that I can't come to grips with (pun intended). Even the P239, with its square front strap, works fine...but not the P245, which I think is too bad.

Allow me to join also...I do not like the feel of the 245...if they could make a 225 in 45acp...that would be a dream gun.

See, that I didn't know.
I was just going by the book stuff but I have never seen a 245 in person.
I can agree that a P-225 in .45 would be very cool, but I have full faith in mine just the way it is. The 9mm will work as well as anything else, especially in a SIG.
See, when you get good with a SIG, you get really good. The P-225 is so shootable to begin with, then you add in that you can shoot it alot because 9mm is as cheap as it gets to practice with. Pretty soon, you are shooting smiley faces on your targets and everyone around you with at the range is in awe.
Trust me, it need not be a .45 to do the job.;)

The more I think about it, the more I want another one to have around.
A matched pair...:D

I might have to part with my CZ-75BD to get it though. Don't know if I can do that.:(

Anyhow, I still vote for buying a P-225.
Maybe two.

After a 17 years of wanting one, I finally got my 225 last week and shooting it was even better than I dreamed. I'd only hoped that it would be as good as the 9mm P220 I got in 1986, but it even exceeded that fine pistol's performance. I've owned and shot most of the 9mm models of most manufacturers. Taking the 225 out this past weekend was a pleasure I haven't had shooting in quite awhile. The grip, trigger, sights, and accuracy are just perfect for me.

"but I was told that the 225 is the standard issue sidearm for the Canadian Mounted Police and that it is the most issued police sidearm in all of Europe."

Hahahaha!
Great gun, but not so widely used at all. Only some German states' police and Swiss cantons use(d) it.

Probably the most widely used service pistol in Europe (Russia and most former soviet states are in Europe, guys) is the MAKAROV.
Outnumbers any other handguns.

gvass - You might have a chance with the speculation on the Makarov, but Russia is not in Europe. European Russia is the western part of the Russian Federation and is considered politically and geographically part of the European continent, while the entire country is officially part of Asia. The Ural Mountains are the accepted natural dividing line for European Russia and Asia. In some areas of the world geography teachings combine the continents of Europe and Asia to form Eurasia.

My urge to pick one of these up is rising, at this point exceeding my urge to get a Hi-Power since I don't really like single actions.

How well do the 225's function when dirty? Someone at the gun store told me they don't do so well if they get mud on them because sig's are engineered so tightly. Any thoughts on this?

I have never tried it either. Without cleaning it just worked... and worked... and worked... like any good gun should :D

But Sigs have a reputation of going bang everytime you pull the trigger. Mind you, the 226 passed the XM-9 trials together with the Beretta so you shouldn't have to worry about mud.

Regards,

Trooper

Well I don't plan on dropping my P-225 in mud, but I do know that it will work. I shot over 800 rounds of every kind of ammo that I could find when I first got my P-225 with no cleaning and no problems at all. I have found that it will misfire with Olympic ammo but that is the only problem that I have ever had with it. I think it is due to poor QC with that type of ammo because I have shot Speer, CCI Blazers, Winchester, UMC, Remington, Geco, Federal and various handloads with no malfunctions.
The gun just works, plain and simple.
And it fits perfectly behind my right hip.;)

While we are on the subject, you may also want to check out a CZ-75 variant. My CZ will shoot even the Olympic stuff with no troubles. Never had a jam with it and it is as well made and accurate as my SIG for around half the price of a P-220 or P-226. The CZ is one hell of a gun, and even better when you look at the price.
The only thing that makes me even consider life without it is the way my SIG feels in my hand.
YMMV

Yes, you're absoletely true. But, the 80% of the population (and their LE and Military) of Russia is in its European part.
Belorussia and Ukraine are 100% in Europe, and they use the Makarov.

So it is probably true, that in the territory of European continent the most frequently used service handgun is the Makarov. Not the SIG P225 at all.

Even the Beretta M92 is used by larger number, as service pistol of Italian LE and Armed forces and French forces, too (French are under arming to SIG SP2022s although).

Hey Karate, did you buy the P225? You inspired me to go get another one myself (just purchased today), so I'd be real dissappointed if you didn't buy it ;)

bradvanhorn

I did indeed buy the 225 and love it...it is more accurate than it has a right to be and fits my hand like a glove....I fell in love with it the first time that I laid eyes(and hands)on it....I already had a 220 and knew about Sigs reliability and accuracy...but had had to check with other High Road owners and get their input...it just comfirmed what I already knew about Sigs they are great weapons and the 225 is no exception...I love my 220 but unless I change my mind the 225 may take its place as my carry gun...wait I have an idea 220 in cold weather and 225 the rest...man what a problem...any body have any good holster suggestions...are holsters readly available for the 225....I perfer OWB strong side carry and leather...Thanks for all of the advice on this purchase...:)

great leather for a SIG 225

I just bought my first SIG 225 back at Christmas. Here is a link to the thread I started to verify that I was making a good choice in leather for an IWB holster. Andrews also makes a great OWB I have worn it at my suppliers shop but decided for my needs IWB was a better choice.
Hope that this is some help to you.

I need to find some quality gun leather myself. If you are willing to wait, and are willing to part with your money, Mitch Rosen makes incredible leather gear. My 1911 rig probably cost around $300(?), and took about four months. I don't recall the price and wait time exactly, since I bought the rig about nine years ago. But, it's an awesome piece of work.

One sure bet, if you decide you want to "upgrade" your P225, send it to TJs Custom Gunworks (www.tjscustomgunworks.com). TJ is known as the "Sig Master" for very good reason. I'll have my recently purchased P225 in hand shortly, but as soon as I get it I'll immediately be sending it to TJ for an action job and chrome plating. Sigs are great guns to begin with, but TJ makes them truly spectacular.
