What’s the difference between a Sig 228 and a Sig 229 in 9mm besides 3 rounds in the mag and a little extra weight (although its 2 oz)

I really look at the November 05 Limited Edition - P228 Two-Tone which comes with 2 13 rd mags. So the 13 rd mags would fit the 228. Does this leave just 2 oz. and slightly different dimensions?

The 228 uses a stamped steel slide w/milled breechblock while the P229 uses a slide milled out of stainless barstock. Personally, I don't know why they continue to offer both models and feel they should just drop the P228.

Yeap, I prefer the 228 also, just wish they offered chamberings other than 9mm for the 228. The 229 can chamber .40S&W & .357 SIG as well as 9mm while the 228 only is chambered in 9mm.

The 228 handles better for me.

One cosmetic difference is the P228 has full-heighth cocking serrations while the P229 has half-heighth cocking serrations.

The dimensions are pretty much the same if not exact. Outside of the differences outlined above, the big difference for me was balance. The 228 felt comfortable and the 229 felt top heavy, not alot, but just enough to make it feel funny to me. Rent both at the range and see which one you like better. Can't go wrong with either, good luck.
