I recently got a Sig CPO from James at www.ordnanceoutsellers.com when he got in a shipment of 229 DAKs that had been with the Waltham Police Department. Mine was almost LNIB w/night sights and a bunch of 10 round mags (thanks CA) in the original box, really like getting a new pistol.

Lately, I've been a big fan of the 1911 or the Springfield XD SA trigger, but between the desire to pick up a Sig and the great deal, the timing was right. For those that aren't familiar with these guns, they're a Sig 229 w/their proprietary double action only trigger system, called DAK. The best way to describe the trigger in short is it's like a very nice DA pull on a tuned revolver. What led me to this gun over an HK or other DAO is the 229 platform and the fact that the DAK trigger has a consistent weight to the trigger. It doesn't get heavier the more you pull, in other words, like the HK, so you have a smooth trigger pull until it breaks.

So far, I've taken it out to the range and run four different flavors of ammo through it, 165 & 185 ball and HP. No malfunctions, and the only real gripe I've had is the mags were a PITA to load the first couple of times. In fact, I had to pay close attention to ensuring that the rounds were seated at the back of the mag to load all ten rounds. Thank you CA...

Overall, I really like the weapon. I would trust my life to it as a CCW based upon the reliability it had, the reputation these guns have, and the design of the weapon. I can't speak enough of the ergonomics of the Sig in my hand. Honestly, every time I looked at one up until about 2 years ago I thought that they were overpriced ergonomic nightmares and I used to really hate the .40 (no flames or hijacks please) but after a friend let me take his for a spin I was actually amazed with how the weapon handled, and how it felt shooting the .40. Mag changes are positive and very easy, moreso than the Glock, and about the same as the XD. I became a convert in short order, and when the DAK came out I figured it was what I was looking for, as I hate DA/SA and that (along w/price) was the reason I didn't go for the 229.

I really think it's a great trigger if you're in the market for a double action only. I'm not sure I'll transfer over to it entirely because I'm stuck in a location where I can get to the range very rarely, and whatever I choose is going to take a lot of range time for practice. So, most likely the decision of which will be my primary handgun will be a while in the future. Most likely when I get orders to a free state.

Hope that this helps those who might be thinking of one of these.
