I was somewhat disapointed with today's local gun show. Bunch of T-shirt&beef jerky sellers and not enough good deal on real firearms. Until.. I saw a guy walking around with all familiar large blue box. I asked him if it was a Sig, then he showed me what he had, a brand new black 229 9mm.
How much?
$600.
How about $550?
No.
Will $600 Cash do it?
ok!
Well, soon afterwards I went to the indoor range with 500 round of Remington UMC rounds. So, how do I like my 3rd (had 220, 226)? Better than first two! The recoil of the rather heavy 229 fells like a gentle push with a slight muzzle rise, allowing rapid follow up shots. I fired off 500 rounds non-stop, only stopping to refill magazines, and it left good heap of brasses on the floor right side of me. The P229 came with two Klinton mags, but I only used $ 79 Mecgar 15 rounder for the test. Out of 500 rounds 9mm FMJ, I had one instance of failure to lock the slide back on the last round. This is probably due to either weak ammo load or a magazine glitch. Otherwise the gun was perfectly reliable. Though not as accurate as my HK P7M8; The Sig 229, with an already properly adjusted sight from the factory, was able to make consistant 4-5" groups at 25 yards. The bar dot configuration sight were highly effective for rapid firing, and somewhat easier and faster to pick up than three dots configuration in my opinion. The trigger pull was best I've felt in any double action pistols I've shot, especially in single action. Sig 229 trigger does have a rather long take up, which allowed steady rapid fire, but not super fast 1911 style double taps (than again, no other handgun does...). Overall, this gun is reliable, accurate, easy to shoot, and most of all FUN!!! I love this gun, and I like it as much as my Belgian Hi-Power. What a find for $600!
