Does anyone here carry one of these? What's your impression of the quality? I'm about to fall into some money and I want an honest assesment of the pistol's strengths/weaknesses. I realize that the caliber is marginal, but I intend to carry in a coat pocket where light weight is critical. Please advise.

Not too Shabby

Earlier this year, while looking for a pistol for my wife, we checked out the Sig 232, the Walther and the Bersa/Firestorm .380.

While the Sig was a nice gun, we liked the Bersa/Firestorm better. Not just because of the price($200 less) but I liked the feel of the trigger on the Bersa better, and my wife wanted the gun to have a slide mounted safty, so we went with the Firestorm.

Now, if you are set on spending all the money you have, then I can't fault you for getting the Sig...it's just not the choice I would make.

Good Luck to you...

I brought a sig stocking dealer to the shooting range to try my bersa. He had no doubt in his mind that his sig 232 would kick my "cheap knockoff" bersa's @$$. To make a long story short he now stocks Bersa and recommends them to every person who walks in looking at a sig or walther.

My 230 will be the last pistol I ever get rid of. I might even sell off some of my wheelguns first, well, that's probably a little strong. But I do like it more than any of my various pistols.

Probably the best-looking .380.
A little large for a .380.
Eats the web of my hand (a la Walther).
Usually overpriced for what you get.
Far, far too easy to lose small parts when fieldstripping/cleaning.:cuss:

For, high cost  & good trigger, though not as good as a BERSA.
Basically a Walther copy w/o the Walther safety. A safety is a good feature if someone gets your gun as they may not be able to fire it immediately.
A nice 380 if someone does not want a safety.

Prefer BERSA.

They are great quality guns....but I must follow suit.

The Bersa is as heavily built as the Sig...I wouldnt shoot only +P through either of them. The steel framed gun is better for stout ammo.

You spend alot of money on the "Bling bling" factor and the name.....

Id look seriously at the Bersa or CZ83. The CZ is a heavier built gun based on the 9x18 mak round. It will shoot +P .380 for its lifetime and beg for more. It compares well with the Browning BDA/Sig for quality........and smokes them both on price.
Its cheaper than the Sig but more than the Bersa, holds more rnds than both and has one of the best triggers in all of gundom.

:D

Shoot well............

"The CZ is a heavier built gun based on the 9x18 mak round. "

Actually the SIG P230 is originally built for such a +P round, the German 9x18 Police, which was comparable to Makarov, but became obsolete within some years.

I hope this doesn't turn into a Sig vs. Bersa thread as so many of the P230 and P232 threads tend to....

Having said that, the Sig does not have to cost $200 more than a Bersa, and IMO even when it does it is worth it. I think highly of Bersa's and believe they are a fantastic value for what you pay, but I also think putting them on the same plane with a Sig is misleading.

I carry a P232 daily and love it, so I am admittedly biased but I wouldn't trade my P232 for two Bersa's and I have handled/fired them extensively.

A lot of dealers that try to talk people out of the SIG and into the Bersa are doing so because they can make a fatter profit on the Bersa. Not saying that is always the case, but don't ever forget profit as a motivating factor....

Never forget, opinions are like.... well nevermind.... :D

I loved my Sig P232. I had one in stainless and it was wonderful, I have no complaints whatsoever. I did, however, trade it for a Springfield XD9 Subcompact because it is only a bit larger and carried more rounds of a more powerful cartridge. If finances had allowed me to keep both, I definately would have.

I've shot the 230, and liked the Kahr PM9 better. YMMV

Ditto. I also like the Glock 26 better than the 230. You give up a little in width for more power and controllability IMHO.

My wife has a P230 SS frame, Bersa Thunder .380, and Walther PPK/S-1

She carries the Bersa. The Walther DA trigger is bad, might loosen after 5000 or so dry fires...

The SIG is a bit heavier, and the Bersa has a manual safety for purse carry, and she ain't too shabby with it, so she chose to carry that one.

Take a look at the Kahr P9 or PM9. It's just about the same size as a P232, fires a 9mm and would be less prone to gouging the web of your hand. I had a P230 and sold it for my PM9. The bottom of the P230's slide would practically saw through the web of my hand as it would cycle.

If you really need a .380 look at the Beretta 85. IMO it's the better shooter of most of the .380s out there. It's a tad thicker than the P230 but a more comfortable gun to fire.

My p232 is a pretty and well made gun. It has good accuracy and excellent reliability. It is probably more reliable than any other semi-automatic I own. It's narrow and conceals well. I like it. Nonethless, I have to constantly remind myself to grip low so the slide doesn't bite me. And then there is that darned DA/SA. I guess I've been shooting 1911 and Glock too long. I don't think I'll ever really get used to the DA/SA transition. :banghead:

I have always regretted selling my Sig 230. Several months ago, I tried to order a 232 with some of the less-popular factory options. When it finally came it, it was a regular-old 232. No one seemed to know what happened in Exeter. Anyway, I ended up leaving the gun shop with the Kahr PM-9 which is my "off-duty, need a smaller gun" pistol. I love it. It doesn't have the appeal of the 232, but it fills it's niche very well. I carry it when I might have otherwise gone with just my NAA .32 Guardan.

I have a stainless 232 and LOVE it. The only thing I don't like is the web biting of the hammer if i don't hold it correctly. I had a Bersa 380 too. Don't have it anhymore.. Whats that tell ya??

The 232 is soo accurate and shoots so well. HIGHLY recomended.

One of the few things I don't like about the P-232 is the lack of a slide stop. A double feed is highly unlikely, but I like (should it ever become necessary) being able to lock the gun open, rip out the magazine, work the slide, and insert a new magazine. Not sure how the heck you clear a double feed without locking the slide back.

Perhaps it is all of those malfunction drills my agency has us do every qualification. My NAA suffers from the same "shortcoming" if you can call it that.
