Hey all. My dad just bought a Sig 556. He seems to be pretty stoked to have had a chance at buying it. He thinks they are fairly rare. Are these highly sought after firearms?

I can buy one for about $1600, or a RA XCR for $1425. I think the RA XCR is probably a tad bit better gun. Before you flame me on that, I'm saying that based on the design, not the 'reputation'.

input appreciated. thanks.

$1500 seems to be about standard for stores that have them continually; $1300 for those that just get one in every once in a while, and sell fast. Used, I think I've seen a few people selling for closer to $1100 online.

www.mooneysfirearms.com . I think he's got em on sale right now for $1,225. I definetly wouldn't pay $1,400-$1500 for one. In that range I'd say the XCR is a better deal. Lot's of people have issues with the 556, mainly just cosmetics, good gun I think for around $1200 though.:)

Only because the maker, SIG, either underestimated the market, or cannot figure out how to ramp production.

Sooner or later the market will stabilize around 1200 or so if you are not in a rush.

They are probably just wanting to get a couple and move them fast... because that 1300 is a crazy price. He aint making anything on it. Seriously. That kind of selling is just to get people in the door. A loss leader it is called.
SIG's dealer program is that we have to buy 10 handguns to get 1 556 Carbine. We could get more rifles, but we would have to buy them from a distributor and that would force us to raise our price. The guns might be cool, but we have to make money on selling them to stay in business.

Gander Mtn in PA has them for either $1299 or $1399, can't remember which. They had three sitting amongst the other EBRs. If they were promoing them as loss-leaders, I must have missed it.

I handled one. Eh.

A local shop where I live had one on the shelf for a few months, I think they were asking $1300 for it. Someone finally bought it but I was surprised how long it was on the shelf.

Personally I don't care for the original model but the new 556 Swat version is a little better.

Considering they are roughly the same price as a decent AR and actually a little more expensive than some, I haven't had the desire for one. My little Bushy may not be that unique but at least it was under $1K works great all the time and just much an EBR as the 556.

Two gunshops within ten miles of where I sit have 'em in stock, for $1300 each. One shop also has the SWAT version for $1800.

One of these shops recently sold a used/unfired example for a grand a couple of weeks ago.

I just picked one up this week that came with the emergency sights and the little holographic sight on sale for $1,310.00. Put the holosight on my Ruger MkIII. I'll scope it and see how it does. As they become more plentiful I will then look for a SWAT foregrip for it so I can have a little more stable bi-pod mount.

$1,175 shipped for the optic ready model all day long. Do not pay more than $1200!!!!!!!!
