I'm considering getting either the p229 or p226 classic 22, and then a caliber exchange kit for .40 S&W. From what I understand, the classic 22's are either the p220, p226, or p229 frame with a .22 conversion kit. Is the .22 kit worth it? I know .22 pistols can be hit or miss, so I was wondering if it would be useful or just frustrating.
This route would cost me maybe $100 or so more than just buying a p226/9 in .40, but would save me money if I decided to put a .22 conversion on it later.
