Stopped in a Gander Mountain this evening and found a two-tone (looked like a parked slide over stainless) GSR 5" with a solid trigger, non-ambi safety, checkered wood grips, and plain three-dot sights for $649, supposedly down $250 in their big inventory clearance sale that's currently running.

The guy told me that this was a "corporate acquisition," that SIG had taken this in and fixed something wrong with it and then sold it at wholesale to GM. I figure that SIG's policy is first to fix and then return, before they replace anything outright. Would you take a risk on this thing, especially with the price that's on it?

For that price it is either used (although if it is a SIG CPO it will have a limited factory warranty), or they just want to get rid of it.

My personal experience with a GSR

Considering the price (a good $250 off) I might give it a qualified thumbs up if it is not an early model with the "manhole cover" in the slide. This is a small circular plug with two holes in it (for a special spanner wrench) on the right side of the slide behind the grasping serrations, used to access firing pin safety parts. This (along with the accompanying firing pin safety parts:rolleyes:) is one of the parts that flew out of my first gun, which prompted its replacement by SIG.
