Sig loading problem

I recently purchased a certified pre owned Sig p229, .40 It came with two SIG magazines. Whenever I ONLY have one round in the magazine and try to load the pistol, the round always gets jammed. (For both magazines). However, as long as I have 2 or more rounds, it never gets jammed (except for the last one) Any one know whats going on?

it could be the spring. but if i were you, i'd send it back to make sure they really do the work on this "certification". heh.. someone was sleeping on his bench while certificating.

Also, if I chamber the round quickly, such as when firing it, it will not jam. Only when I manually chamber it at an average speed does it jam.

an ameteur guess would be weak magazine springs... but what do i know.

From the gun's point of view, its "average speed" is the slide going home at full speed.

How are the single rounds jamming? Is the round missing the chamber getting caught above? Getting caught below? Is it nosediving into the front inside of the mag? Is the breechblock overriding the rim?

Is the mag the proper .40SW mag and not a modified/converted 9mm mag?

Try taking the mag apart and turning the mag spring around (front/back not up/down).

The top of the round is getting caught on the top of the barrel. Its like the top of the round is getting pushed up too far. Also, the mag says .40 S&W and .357 on it. Its the two mags that came with the gun.

I had this happen on a CPO P228. I'd bet money it's the mag springs. Call Sig up and tell them the story. As it's a CPO the mags are covered by the warranty and they'll send you new mag springs free of charge. I'd try that before sending the pistol in. Solved my problem, YMMV.
