Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I have a sig p 220 that I want to use for steel shooting. My question is what recoil spring weight would one recommend for a load of 3.5gr of bullseye over 200gr lswc. That load works perfect for all my other pistols and stove pipes in the sig.

Thank you

Wolff says:

Recoil Springs are available with load-rated specifications to tailor the recoil function to individual needs. Each load-rated recoil spring pak includes an extra power firing pin spring. Also for use in Browning BDA .45ACP
  • Reduced Power...: 14, 15, 16, & 18 Lb.
  • Factory Standard.: 20 Lb.
  • Extra Power.........: 22 & 24 Lb.

  • P220 RECOIL SPRING NOTES:
1. Current production has green painted recoil springs rated at 20 Lbs.
2. Earlier models had a black recoil spring rated at 15 Lbs.
3. Super .38 model has a 14 Lb. factory recoil spring.
4. Browning BDA .45 has a 14 Lb. factory recoil spring.

I'd go all the way down to 14.

Thank you. Saw that on wolf sight. Wasn’t sure how low to go. I thought 16.

That's a question that has resurfaced several times. It seems like 18 would be advised for trouble free/ reliability. The 16 seems like a gamble, and if I'm in competition, I don't want maybe in terms of performance. Not at all.

On the other side of the coin, why not use the standard 20, unless it is problematic.

Because it is problematic as he said in the OP.

I could never get SWC's to run in my P220 (German made). YMMV.

I could not, either. I sold it because it would not handle 1911 ammo. But I liked it well enough that I bought another which only gets roundnose and ogival hollow points. Now, I have gone over to roundnose in all guns. I have one that just won't feed anything else so I load all roundnose so I don't have to customize ammo for individual guns.

I mostly run 230 grain ball in my Browning BDA and I just replaced the original factory spring with the recommended Wolff spring and it still runs well. I think I have run 200 grain SWC in the past but am not 100% sure.
