Hi. After doing some reading I found out that some Sigs are offered with internal extractors and some are external.

I want to buy the Sig P220 Stainless Elite full size pistol. Which extractor does it have?

All SIG 220s started with the internal extractor...and it worked fine.

When they went to the stainless slide, the internal extractor's location in the slide wasn't optimized and would sometimes cause some feeding issues.

Current stainless DA/SA 220s are manufactured with the external extractor. It is easy to tell which you have by looking on the side of the slide behind the ejection port

You're looking at an external extactor model but for anyone saddled with an internal extractor ST model, you finally have two options:

1. Sig will replace the internal extractor slide with an external extractor slide

2. Gray Guns, one of the top Sig custom shops, has developed a replacement internal extractor that supposedly fixes the problem.

Issues with the internal extractor ST models are no myth. It's more a question of when, not if.

It is fairly recent, I had this done in October 2012. I've called Sig reps in the past who claimed to have no knowledge of this but the rep I dealt with on the slide replacement is named Jared and his direct line is 603-610-3855. Very helpful.

This is Sig, not Ruger, so they're looking for you to pay. You can get a new exterior extractor ST slide with night sights for about $200. They will also try to upsell you on the 5-inch target slide.

I think Gray Guns is charging about $130 for their replacement part and service.

They wouldn't have to try very hard with me...of course, it could get pricey with adjustable sights and then a need for the longer barrel/guide rod. Would you happen to recall how much they wanted for the setup?

I might have to look into this. I have 2 CPO 220STs that I picked up for $600 a piece. One is at Grayguns for action work and a welded-on magwell...I'll likely add their extractor.

I've been shooting the other in IDPA CDP and an external extractor...sans night sights...has a certain appeal

External.
I wouldn't worry about the extractor at all. FTE or rapid wear is not a common Sig Sauer problem today, with the possible exception of the 22 Mosquito. I have taken many courses at the Sig Sauer Academy.
