sig p220

I picked up the SIG p220 last night, this is my first SIG. Now that I have it, it just seems small, really small. I have freakishly large hands, but a 1911 feels comfortable, this SIG feels more like a .22. anybody else have the same experience?

No, I'm the complete opposite, a 1911 in my hands feels like I'm holding a broom, not so with the 220 which fills my hand nicely.

Ummm... no. That sounds weird. I have two P220s and they are good sized pistols with a good amount of heft.

Post some pics with it next to a 1911.

Hmmm...the P220 is one of the most comfortable handguns for me, as is the 1911.

Maybe it will just take some time to get used to?

I had the same issue, but I put some simple Hogue grips on it and it seemed to "fatten" up with grip a bit and it feels perfect in my hand!

i have bearclaw hands and i had no issue with the P220, get some crimsome trace grips that should fatten it up

extxdpscamaro's got it right (as does bigfoot311, if you're wanting a laser as well). Get some different grips for that puppy, and it should fill up quite nicely. Especially the finger groove Hogues.

Strange that 1911's fit your hands, though. They feel slimmer than 220's to me.

There are actually a few really nice .45's out there w/ notoriously wide grips. The HK USP .45, Glock 21, and CZ 97b come to mind. Or one of the plethora of new pistols w/ interchangeable backstraps.

Anyways, give the Hogues a try. Should improve things a bit.

its the plain jane p220, full size da/sa. ill grab some photos tomorrow morning. the 1911 feels slimmer but longer front to back, i think it feels wrong because my knuckles are wrapping further around the grip.
you guys are probably right about getting some hogues, or maybe the wood grips off an elite or equinox would cure it.

the 1911 grip is not only slimer, side to side, but also shorter front to rear due to the arch over the mainspring.

the hogue rubber grips are fatter and the wood are fatter still

I couldn't hit a thing with my P220 when I got it. I put on Hogue finger groove grips and it shoots very well for me now.

I put fatter grips on almost all my pistols to improve my handle on the gun and the way they point for me.

A notable exception would be the CZ97 and TZ97 which get thinner grips which are either aluminum with skateboard tape or checkered.

To the OP. Is this a NIB P220. Have you taken it to the range yet? Shoot well? Any issues?

And yeah, Hogue rubber grips will fatten the grip up a bit.

I also think that the P220 grip is bigger than a 1911s. I second (third) a set of Hogue finger groove grips.

I carried my SIG p220 the first 6 years of my career. I loved it. I still have it but have transferred to a Glock.........HATE IT........shot so much better with my Sig.
