Any info on this gun?

I may be able to trade the RIA 1911 Tac custom I have listed here for a Sig P220 nickel. Would that be a fair trade? Anyone know of any sources for good reliable mags for the Sig p220?? Mec gar maybe or is it only factory?

Any info on this gun or where to find a good inexpensive source of mags would be great...would you guys make the trade?

I had one of the older 'folded slide' versions from 1995. It was utterly reliable...and frankly it was all I appreciated about the gun. Six years of ownership and I finally had enough.

They have a cult following so others will chime in how amazing they are, etc.

My experience with the Sig 220 has been outstanding and was the gun that replaced my 1911 Commander when I carried .45ACP for duty.

Here is the folded slide model (blued) I carried on duty and the ST model (stainless) than I use for teaching:

Mec-Gar used to make the factory magazines for Sig...I don't know if they have changed over to Checkmate for the 220 yet. Mec-Gar does not offer a 220 magazine to the public. I actually prefer the Act-Mag magazines (like the mag in your ad) for my 220, as they are less expensive and just as reliable...plus a lot less expensive...I have 25+.

If you could trade your RIA for a Sig 220 straight across, I think you'd be making out like a bandit...but I don't value your RIA at the same level as you do.

I have owned 2. Both were utterly and completely reliable and accurate. They are quite big and heavy guns--just not TOO big and heavy. DA/SA offers you some choice. Decocker works nicely. Single stack mag.

I have nothing 'bad' to say about them but I prefer the 1911, especially in .45. That's just me.

I'd second what 9mm said, I think you would definitely be getting the better side of the deal assuming the Sig is in anywhere near decent condition. Course I tend to lean toward Sig rather than 1911....:uhoh:

I bought my first P220 about 5 months ago--one of the current models. It's becoming my favorite SIG and one of my favorite handguns. It carries pretty easily despite its size due to the flat profile. Not as heavy as the Colt Government Model 1911. Handles well and shoots better than I can. It has been totally reliable with every type of ammo I've used. I've owned a couple of 1911s and I much, much prefer the P220 design.

As for magazines, I echo 9mm epiphany. SIG-branded magazines run about $32 from Top Gun (the ones I've bought were all made by Mec-Gar). IIRC, Mec-Gar doesn't currently sell magazines for the P220 with "Mec-Gar" on them. ACT-MAGs work fine and cost about $20 for the blue model from Greg Cote LLC and CDNN. I bought several ACT-MAGs for range use but after finding them to function reliably, I would trust them for defense.

Trading RIA for P220? Seems like a good deal to me.

Seems like a good deal to me too.

Not sure yet if it'll go through, we both want to check these out in person first. I know that the RIA is a lower tiered 1911, but the tactical version is solid and gets good reviews. It is a workhorse.

Even if you can find one from Sarco or something for around 430, you have to factor in shipping costs, FFL transfer fees, and you're coming in around 500 dollars. At that point, factor in all the custom work done (new barrel, Ivan's work at the custom shop, Dawson fiber optic sites, etc etc etc) and I wouldn't lose sleep thinking it a one sided deal. It's a two inch groups at 25 yards pistol, and it handles better and is a lot more reliable than other 1911s I've owned!

The only other 1911 I've owned that matched it in reliability was a Sistema Colt. IMO, this is a better shooting pistol than my Springfield Mil-Spec OR Series 70 Colt...which was actually the least reliable.

One question- I am hoping for a straight across trade as I imagine actual dollar value invested on either end is pretty even. However, what do you think a fair dollar amount to sprinkle on top would be if I need to sway the deal? I do really want it.

RIA tactical is a $450 gun NIB. The Sig nickel was a $750 to $800 gun. On the used market RIA go for under $400. The Sig depending on condition is a $550 to $650 used gun.

I would offer your RIA + $100 but if you ended up giving as much a $200 you are comming out way ahead IMHO.

I personally would never trade a P220 for a RIA. IMHO they are not in the same category.
