Hi all. I just gave in a bought a couple of oem mags for my p220 elite dark. I wanted to wait a little while but I found a decent deal (for the times) on a couple so I went ahead and ordered them. I've read that mec-gar made the oem mags for sig for many years but that sig has recently switched to checkmate for their oem mags. I seem to get the feeling that many on other forums feel the checkmate mags are substandard compared to the mec-gars. Does anyone have experience with both mags? If so what's your opinion? I'm inclined to believe either one will work great as I've seen quite a few complaints about mec-gar as well during my research.

I'm unaware of any checkmate P220 magazines. But, if there were any, I'd want the mec gars.

I've never seen or heard of Checkmate mags for Sigs, except possibly for the 1911 Sigs which could take any 1911 mag?

The P220 MecGar mags are what I would only accept, with the zig-zag seam on the back. They work 100% and I see no reason to try anything else.

I was at SHOT 2013 and that would be news to me.I have always used Mec-Gars in my SIGs since factory mags were so expensive and the ones with the zig-zag(not mec-gar) sometimes would open up after heavy use.
When Meg-Gar became the OEM for SIG they made them to new SIGs specs and included a seamless back(no zig-zag).
My original Mec-Gar(pre-sig) mags with their own design have been flawless.I have over 20 of these and they have never failed.
The new SIG mags made by Mec-Gar are great and work well but $$.

The latest incarnation of P220 mags are extruded steel, which is why you don't see any seams. It is true that the current 8 round magazines cannot load rounds that don't have a profile and OAL similar to FMJ. I have some mec gar 7 round mags that will take anything. It's based on the "front to back" distance of the mag body.

While I have heard of Checkmate magazines for the SIG 226 and 229...and the related problems...I haven't heard that they have started using them in the 220 yet.

Mec-Gar is the OEM of SIG 220 magazines and they work very well. I personally prefer the old dove-tail backed 220 magazines, but that is just a personal thing. When I shoot my 220 in IDPA, I have had complete reliability with Mec-Gar and ACT-Mag magazines
