I Have 3 Sigs now and looking at P220ST I have read some negative stuff on the net like to heavy. They just keep catching my eye. please help with opinons

It's only heavy if you're going to carry it. If it's not a carry gun, the 220 ST is an EXCELLENT pistol. Mine's tight as a vault and as accurate as my Springer with fitted Bar-Sto barrel. Hands down, the best out of box accuracy of all my pistols (right up there with my CZ).

What Bam-Bam says. It is a heavy pistol though I do carry it on my job during stormy weather and my fair weather pistol is a blued 220. My 220st is a very tight pistol and would put it up accuracy wise against anything that cost twice as much.

I'll echo the great things said about a great gun.......they are just as nice as they can get. Mine was as accurate as my STI Trojan, which is saying alot.
They can get heavy but with a good holster, its just like any other gun of stature......they are highly shootable and will outlast you and your kids if you take care of it.
Shoot well.........

I wouldn't consider 40oz to be too heavy, but the rail would mean holsters for standard P220's would not work. If they made the 220ST without a rail, I'd think that ought to become the go-to gun for you SIG guys.

BTW, welcome to the forum, f4t9r.

The P220ST is all steel gun vs. the the aluminum alloy frame of the regular P220. For a range gun the P220 is awesome. It'll shoot accurately, and comfortably too. Recoil is easy because of the heavier frame.

Its only 2 oz. lighter than a Colt Government. It ain't that heavy. :)

It is a great gun to shoot. Would love to have a 220ST but it would be a range gun. Too heavy for carry and over weight for SSP class in IDPA.

I carry one on-duty and love it. The weight doesn't bother me. It weighs as much as a Govt 1911 that I use to carry and it's lighter than the N frame I use to carry. The weight helps with follow up shots compared to the standard P220.

The original propriety-railed 220ST will fit all standard 220 holsters, as will the rail-less 220S.

I'm not a Sig guy. Was there a prior version of the rail that was more congruous with the original dustcover?

THey are heavy guns but with the right belt and holster combo they can be carried. I have 2 226ST's that I carry on a regular basis, it took a while to find the right holster (Balde Tech) but I don't really notice the difference from a regular frame 226

GarryP,
I use a standard Uncle Mike's Pro 3 that I used when I carried the non railed P220. I'm about to switch to the Safariland 6280 with light attachment.

I have a SIG P220ST with the older rails:

They are just cuts in the dust cover.

What's the difference between 220STs with old rails and new rails? Some time ago, before I was interested in 220STs, there was a discussion on old vs new. Now that I'm in the market, is there a serial number after which "new" rails were cut? Thanks.

Dunno about serial numbers, but you can easily spot the old rails from the new. The picture above is the old style, and it would only fit Sig lights on it unless you bought an adaptor from Sig. The new rails are more square, like on a Glock, and it'll fit lights like the M3/M6 series. Go to Sig's website, and you'll see pics of the new rail.
