Hello THR!

First post since the site switch, so bear with me.

My wife shoots a P226 Elite Dark in 9mm. We both really like it.

It came with a rear adjustable sight would consistently shoot itself loose to the point where you could move it back and forth with your fingers. Locktite wasn't doing it.

I replaced those sights (utilizing a qualified gunsmith) with Trijicon HD Sights. The same ones I have on my P239.

At 20-25 yrds, I am shooting below as 8" steel plate. I have to place my front sight over the top of the plate to hit it. At first, I thought I was just pulling the shot and dipping (not that I would *ever* do that... right?) so I had 2 other competent shooters confirm.

My P239 also shoots low. With the same POA, I am just low of the 8" plate. Put the big orange dot just above the plate and I am hitting it without difficulty.

My P226 with standard Siglite Sights is dead on as is other Sigs I was shooting that day.

Am I missing something here? Is there an cost effective way to bring that POI up just a touch?

Do the Elite Model Sigs have a different sight setup with the slide or is it the same (my assumption) as a standard model?

I am guessing that if I get a shorter front sight or a taller rear sight that would adjust it, but I don't know how much to adjust it by and trial/error method would be expensive.

Any help here is appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

Okay, I may have posted a touch too soon.

I found this article:
http://www.realgunreviews.com/sig-sauer-sight-heights-sight-numbers/

it details that a change to the rear sight (number up or down) will change impact by 2 inches at 25yrds. A front sight change (number up or down) will change impact by 1 inch at 25yrds.

I would still love to hear some good advice, but now I have a place to start.

may not help but if you start measuring sight heights keep in mind that SIG includes the base/dovetail in their measurements, while everyone else like Dawson measures from the top of the slide.

Recently, most gun makers have gone to the dot over bullseye, which causes some people problems.

The other problem is that Trij makes different height sight sets for 9mm vs. 40. Which one did you buy?

If you bought SG103O or SG103Y, you bought the wrong sights and it will make the gun shoot low.

Your real issue is weather Trijicon sights are designed to produce proper POI when installed on your pistol (they should, assuming the Dark Elite has standard dovetails), what sight picture they are using, and whether you have the right ones. I'd suggest using calipers to measure your sights and compare them to the specs listed by Trijicon. Unlike Sig, Trij does not have a bunch of graduated sights to move your POI around.

That is good info, thanks. Never heard of dot over bullseye. Seems like it would tough to make that work.

The one I bought was: SG101O which is supposed to be for 9mm and 357 Sig. So that matches.

Update on this:

Called Sig Customer Service.

Apparently the Dark Elite has a deeper cut front Dovetail in the slide.

Now I feel like I am up a creek a little bit. Probably going to have to go back to the old sights and change the rear to something that doesn't wiggle around.

As much as I like the big orange dot, I wonder if I could put the old Front Sight on and keep the rear from the Trijicons... ?

You think it shoots low now? With the even higher old front sight it is going to be ridiculous.

Your best bet is to get Sig to fix your rear sight problem and sell the Trijicons at a loss.

That's pretty obnoxious on Sig's part.

Yeah, you are right, I got mixed up with the ups and downs and POI.

Thanks for the input. If that rear adjustable sight from Sig would stay put, I would just have kept it the way it was.

Yeah, that's what warranties are for.

That's a great point.
I didn't think that Second Owners could utilize the warranty program. I will have to look into that.
They have to know that you aren't the first owner. HK warrantied something for me once - they didn't even ask if I was the original owner or not. And I didn't volunteer it.

Either way, Sig doesn't need people out there complaining that their products don't work right, and that's reason enough for them to want to fix it. Plus, they only need the slide shipped.

What were the #'s on the original sights? The general online sights list #8's for -most- Sigs. The 2022 had #8's but the 229 Enhanced Elite came with a #8 front and #6 rear. Trij- HD will likely follow the #8 sets. Sig does not have inventory of all the increments. It does show on the pooter but the rep stated he's not seen night sights in #9 configs and he didn't have an entry to order #9. I was looking for a #9 front night sight. A #10 rear is available. Past times they had the increments for fine tuning but doesn't seem that way now.

Yeah, but:
Apparently the Dark Elite has a deeper cut front Dovetail in the slide.

I get ya. I had it reversed on my 229 Elite, the #6 is in the front so this may match with the Dark Elite having a deeper front dovetail. In that instance his POI with the #8 front would be 2" higher. If he uses a #10 rear from Sig (Provided the Sig and Trijicon's maintain the same height) that is 4" higher POI @ 25 yards. Knowing what they had in the stock front sight would help.

Okay so the old sights are not marked with numbers.

The only markings present are: "MH3 AL" on front and rear sight.

My standard 40 cal 226 is a number 6 in front and 8 in rear.
The MH3 AL front sight is taller than the number 6 but shorter than the Trijicon.
The MH3 AL rear sight is taller than the Trijicon rear sight.

Also to note, it looks like the front AND rear of the slide of the Elite are cut deeper than standard. It could be that my 226's are different generations, but I thought they would be the same.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, All.
