Hi to all, I'm new to the forum.

Writing from italy, hope that somebody could help me.
Some month ago I bought a used P226 in 9mm. caliber. It's an old, made in Germany, model - maybe a "blued standard" version, AFAIK.
I'm appreciating it alot but... it has a couple of problem. The slide does not always lock open, after the last round. It remains open very few times, the most of the times the "hold open" lever does not work.
Does anybody have the same problem with the P226?
Another issue raised yesterday morning: the firing pin retaining (not "solid", as far as I can see) is broken, I'm loocking for the original spare but I don't even know which part number it is. My P226 is an old model, without external extractor. I've just seen retaining pins for P226s with short and long extractors, but my pistol's extractor is located inside the body.
hope that somebody could help me.
Thanks in advance

1. Try shooting it one-handed with your thumb locked down below the slide lock lever. Many people brush the slide lock lever with their thumbs inadvertently and prevent lockback after the last round. I was convinced mine was faulty also, but learned that I had to keep my right thumb outboard a bit to prevent this malfunction.

If it still does not lock back and you are using full-powered ammo, try replacing the magazine spring with a fresh one.

2. Your slide block pins look right to me. It's not a solid pin; it's one roll pin (or tension pin) inside another roll pin (or tension pin). What makes you think it's broken?

thank you very much. It seems that I've to try to handle the pistol in another way... yes, it's possible that I inadvertently block the lever with my right thumb...
Concerning the pin I sticked the piece back into the slide but it's broken. I've sent a pic of the extracted piece of pin in the first post, but it appears as a thumbnail

Yep, that's broken all right! LOL

You need an INNER and OUTER slide pin for carbon slides. Split pin/roll pin/tension pin. 2 of them. drive them in together.

thank you very much guys.
You're really helping me!
First of all I have to say that today i tried so many times to handle my pistol like I usually do and... I've to say that my right thumb forces the hold open lever down very often (...)
Tomorrow morning I'll go to the range to fire some 100 rounds as I loaded a bunch of cartridges with different loads of a new powder that I'm trying and I pay attention about the position of the fingers during every shot.
Today I tried to fix the pistol by myself, I bought some elastic pins and managed to stick one into another and then a nail inside the inner one.
Of course it's supposed to be a temporary repair, but it works.
I don't know if topgunsupply.com ships overseas and here in Italy it's not very easy to find and buy any Sig Sauer spare but I'll try.

so... I've got the P226 service manual right now. It's great!!!! ;):)

Thank you again!

I found your suggestions very helpful.
First of all: handling the pistol when the thumb is locked down allows the hold-open to work flawlessly. The pistol remains open after the last round without any problem right now.
concerning the pin... I used commercial pins but they do not fit perfectly, so I'm looking to buy a complete spare set like this one:

https://www.sigsauer.com/store/parts-kit-p226-9mm.html

Will it fit my P226? the two pins seem to be the same as the suggested ones (that are impossible to buy right now, as they're not in stock at Top Gun).
thanks again.

Measure it with a micrometer. Remember they're spring steel and area meant to be compressed. Once inserted, the inner one expands against the outer one, tightening it against the hole and providing tension to keep them in the slide.

You can use the all the parts in the SIG kit except for the trigger bar spring. The newer spring with the loop/coil in the center wont work unless you get newer grips with clearance for the new spring. SIG is not supporting these older models and some parts like the internal extractor are getting harder and more expensive to find..

Since you live in Italy why don't you try a Google search for "sig sauer p226 ersatzteile" and see what pops out?
