Ive got two Sigpro 2022s in 9mm, along with a M&P full size 9mm. I'm curious about the little p232. Ive always had my eye on them, and Ive notice they seem to be dropping in price a bit.

They seem to ooze quality as do most Sigs. Please share your experience with this pistol, as well as self defense ammo suggestions.

As you can see, I like the P232. I carry a lightweight alloy model when the temperature rises and I want something smaller than my HK P2000SK. The P230 is a accurate, reliable, and is one of the most natural pointers made. The availability of factory night sights if you desire them, is a plus. It is a classic design, sexier than even the Walther PPK I think.

I put either Gold Dot or Silver Tip in mine when carried then any old cheap ammo for practice. Any quality ammo should be sufficient for defense. There are many holsters available and several styles of grips...another plus for this model pistol.

Here's my family of three. I love this pistol.:D

I guess I can be the first to give a slightly negative review. I tried a 232 and passed on it because it felt to me that the grip was larger than on their 9mm pistols, specifically the 239. Even when looking at the picture above, the size of the grip from front to back looks longer than the other two pictures.

The Beretta 9000s was also a pistol I wanted to like but couldn't.

Definitely try one before you buy it.

The p232 is one of my favorite pistols ever. I've owned a p230 and a p232, sold both when I needed the cash. If I had the money right now I'd buy either or both. Very accurate and fun to shoot. Oozes quality, like you said.
For self defense I recommend the 90gr Cor-bon load or Buffalo Bore's new .380 loads. I'd test both before relying on them, but the Cor-bon has a proven track record.
The p230/p232 carries almost as easy as an airweight j-frame. Most pants its a front pocket gun. Carries easy.

I've got a p232, its the SS with the night sights. It works great for me, I carry it loaded with pow'r'ball. Most always it rides around in my pocket if I don't feel like carrying my xd45.

I purchases a Blued P 232 used a while back. It looked like it was in great shape.

I read the instruction manual, and tried to clean it. I discovered that they take down lever had problems. Its not just a simple pin: the external lever actuates another part that relieves the slide. For some reason, mine would occasionally fail to actuate this part.

I took it shooting, and everything was fine for about 20 rounds. Then i started to have failure to feeds, and failure to hold opens about once per magazine. I noticed that the take down lever had wiggled its way into the down position. I put it back, and it was fine for a few more magazines. Then it wiggled down again, and the problems resumed.

It was a lightweight and accurate gun. It was very comfortable to shoot after i added a pair of Hogue rubber grips. I tried several brands of ammo, and types of bullets, and it fed them all well.

I'm sure I could have sent it back to Sig and gotten it fixed, but it probably wouldn't have been under warranty. Instead of fooling around with it, I traded it in on a new Glock 30 the shop had at a good price. The Glock is clunkier, but i am happy with it.

That said, I would recommend the P232 if you find one NEW at a good price. I would even consider buying one again someday if i found a new one at a good price. It was just so easy to carry, and with some good grips it just feels so good in your hand.

It's not for everybody. I have one, and it's not my favorite pistol ever. Doesn't even make the top 3. It is extremely well made, very reliable, and has average to above accuracy. And, it's darn pretty.

On the other hand, mine gives me slide bite no matter what grips I put on it. I find the ergonomics of the grip awkward. I'm no fan of DA/SA. And, I don't like the trigger shape and feel.

But, I can't bring myself to part with it.
