Proud owner of a NIB Sig P232!! Walther PPK/S who?? Anyways, I few questions if you dont mind.

Are all P232 built in Germany or are some also made in the States? Mine is stamped made in Germany. Ive heard that U.S. built Sigs are garbage. Thats why I went after the 232 or I was looking at the Sig Pro 9mm that is built over seas as well. To bad America cant build nothing but 1911s. Im not to good with SAO 1911s.

Also, the 232 has a fixed barrel. Is there a differance between a fixed and non fixed barrel? Or is that a meaningless sell point that they use?

+P ammo ok? Ive read yes, but does anyone have experiance with +p?

America builds some of the finest weapons in the world. Are you basing that opinion on your statement of "Ive heard that U.S. built Sigs are garbage."? You've "heard"? That's a silly statement.

Please dont get angry!! This is only 1 man's thoughts.
It's more than "I've heard" look at any one forum on the information super highway (thanks al gore or inventing it) and you'll see what I mean.
The S&W PPK is nothing more than a paper weight. At least it holds paper from flying away well.
Last week I bought a new American made Sig P238 and it had a safety recall. Sig customer service was no help. Took it back to the shop and for a small fee got the German made P232 to replace it.
Import laws have ruined the gun world.
Sig's new motto should be "From Hell and Sig service dept. and Back reliabilty.

...

Sigs CS is good, least in my experience, it's all in the attitude of the caller, is my bet.

As far as American Sigs go, depends on when it was made, will tell the story of quality "control" in the short haul..

Also, the 232 has a fixed barrel. Is there a difference between a fixed and non fixed barrel? Or is that a meaningless sell point that they use?

I'm sure your owner's manual that came with the gun addresses the ammo usage, do's and don'ts of ammo, etc., but they have a stern recoil/kick with standard pressure ammo so, if you choose to shoot +P ammo, be rdy

As far as fixed barrel goes, that is a benefit (if it is true - accurate) as it never moves, unlike a tilt-up action barrel that tilts up for feeding each round and then the slide locks it down and is fine, accurate, as well..

Least all 4 of mine, with the tilt-up-barrel action work, as designed, and are accurate..

Sold my Sig P232 SL (made in Germany) after 1400 rounds, as it really was for the wife and she didn't like the kick/recoil, let alone, the much stiffer, ( making it hard, for her, to cycle the slide)-action due to their blow-back (very dirty) action and longer, stiffer, return springs.

Make sure and read it, as there are some tricky parts, in disassembly and reassembly you need to understand..

Luck,

Ls

Thanks for the words Lonestar. I do basic cleaning and pay the gunsmith 25.00 for a real cleaning after the 2nd or 3rd time.

Will tear into the manual tonite

Fixed barrel guns=blowback design.

Tilting or moving barrels are locked breach

Generally speaking the blowback, (Sig 380, Walther 380) will have more felt recoil than a Ruger or Keltec locked breach.

Just saying, but if I had to pay someone $25 to clean my guns every second or third time:

A> I'd be broke.
B> I wouldn't be ragging on *America's* "inabilities."

Again, not to hate, I'm just saying.

Are you talking about +P in .380?

If so, I know Buffalo Bore makes what they call +P ammo for the .380, but there are no published SAAMI specs for .380 +P, so I don't know what to expect from the BB stuff.

Is it OK to shoot? I suppose they wouldn't sell it if it blew up guns right and left, but a steady diet is sure to cause premature wear on your new gun.

Check the manual, and don't fall for the marketing.

Nice .380 the P232, my next .380 will be a P238 nitron with night sights. I currently own 5 SIGs, all built in the USA, I've never had a single malfunction with any of them. It just proves that you do not want to be the first on the block to buy a new firearm. The American manufacturing facility just built in a design flaw (a Swiss design) into the early P238s. A recall will overwhelm a CS department so that should not be considered business as usual IMO. If you want to deal with a really nice, personable, carring, CS department, try Glock... tee hee, yuk yuk yuck, HAR HAR HAR! Ok I'm back, I've only had 2 revolvers that needed to be returned for service, both on my nickel, a Ruger GP100 that I just plain wore out, they fixed it free, and turn around was about 5 business days. The other was a Uberti Scholfield, cylinder would not turn when loaded out of the box, 9+ weeks before I could shoot the first round, it will be the next trade in. I will quit buying SIGs when they move to China... Don't laugh it could happen.

MattTheHat,

A. I dont get out enough to be broke so it's ok lol. Cause here in AZ it's still a mother to find .380 ammo.
B. I dont like ragging on America's inabilities, it's just im frustrated that American workers think more about their breaks than making a quality produdt.
I served 5 years active duty did and still do love my country

I'm wast just joshin' you a bit, Ice. :)

You might consider getting into reloading. I did a couple of years ago, and I can't tell you how nice it is not to worry about running here and there looking for ammo. I think .380 is just about as hard to find all over the US. At least it is here in Dallas. I loaded up about 500 rounds a couple of weeks ago. It's nice to have a good supply of ammo on hand for everything I shoot.

BTW, I almost came home with a 232 this weekend. Derned nice pistola.

My only SIGs are both 100% made in the USA - a P226 Blackwater 9mm (2007 model) and an all stainless P232. They are both of excellent fit and finish, and have functioned flawlessly from the moment they came out of the box. Nothing wrong at all, IMO, with what Exeter is turning out.

Matt, let me know if you get that 232. we can swap pictures like beaming new parents!! LOL

gwnorth, is that 226 a DAK? Love that DAK, my Taurus millenium pro 9mm has the same feature where if I have a misfire, it'll let pull the trigger again to remedy it. And BTW, THAT STAINLESS IS FREAKING SWEET!! I thought all stainless models came with Houge ( however you spell it) grips. Do you like the blued 232 grips better??

Icewind, not a DAK, that is a stock 2007 Blackwater edition (sans the wood stocks, since I find them a bit too thick). And I too had read that all P232sl's were to have the hogue's, but I bought this one factory new in 2009 just like you see it (and it has SigLite night sites). I actually do like the factory plastic grips - they fit my hand really well, so I haven't had any thoughts to change them.

My P232 has about 800 rounds through it now and has fed everything I've put through it with no problems. I have not actually tried any +p loads, but I can't imagine them hurting it (plus I have not seen any Buffalo Bore on the shelves either - not sure anyone else makes a +p factory .380acp load). These are very sturdy little guns. I use Remington Golden Saber 102gr JHP for SD loads in it.
