My local dealer has a Sig P239 in .357 Sig. I've never owned a Sig or any pistol chambered in .357 Sig. I like the feel and size of the P239. Any recomendation on the .357 Sig? I am leaning toward the p239 in .40S&W due to ammo cost and availablity. I welcome your opinions and ideas. Thanks. BTW, the cost of the p239 in .357 Sig out the door is $500. Good price?

Great price. P239's in Houston are about $500, plus tax. I have a 9mm. I think it is a great gun.

I have no experience with .357 Sig. However, Gun Tests (Aug 2001) compared the Glock 31, 32, and 33 to the Sig 229, 2340, and 239 in .357 Sig. It said: "Gotta Buy It. The P239 is one of the most accurate and reliable small guns in recent memory. We bought one for ourselves." Keep in mind that practice ammo for the .357 Sig is as much or more than .45 ACP.

I love mine (9mm)

Larry, I have the P239 in 9mm and I love it. The grip fits my hand very well, reasonable recoil and carries well all day if needed in IWB. I have no experience in .357 but the 9mm shells are very reasonable at Wal-Mart.The gun is very accurate and I don't regret buying it. I paid 529.00 plus tax for a new one in nov. 02,so if the gun you are looking at is NIB, it sounds like your dealer is giving you a very good deal...

I've also got a Sig 239 in 9mm. It's a great gun overall and I carry it when my clothing choice precludes me carrying my Para CCW. Concealment has been no problem at all for me. I tote it in either a Ken Null IWB holster or a Galco Miami Classic.

I have no firsthand experience with the 239 in .357Sig, but a concern of mine would be recoil. The 239 is a bit on the snappy side in 9mm, I'd expect it would be even more pronounced in .357Sig.

Other than that, the 239 is an excellent gun. I've got 2200 rounds through mine without a single problem.

I've got one in 40. Its probably my favorite handgun. Great D/a trigger (I wish my 220 was as good). Great s/a trigger. Easy to shoot and conceal. Very accurate (meaning it hits what I point it at).

I prefer the Glock 19 or G26, as the P239 (and most other SIGs) feel top heavy to me. Plus I like the Glock's trigger and I don't care at all for DA autoloaders. First trigger pull different from the rest? What is the point?

I looked at P239s a few years back and although I appreciated their construction, they did not point well for me, something I can say for all SIGs except for the P210 (which I can't afford but would love to have).

I picked up a lightly-used P239 in .357Sig a few years back for the paltry sum of $325 from CDNN. I shot it a bit - had access to plenty of ammo since the NMSP had just adopted the round in Glock 31s(?).

Anyway, I found the gun to have lots more muzzle jump than the G-33, probably due to the higher bore axis. I thought about getting a spare barrel in .40 (that ammo being issued to me), but decided to swap the gun to Gunsite for a Gunsite Tactical conversion on my 870.

My advice? The hardest part of a pistol to hide is the butt. Buy a Browning HiPower in .40 and then get a .357Sig barrel for it. Carry it in an IWB holster.

I have a hard time carrying anything smaller than a Beretta 92FS or Colt 1991A1. I settled for a Sig 239 and I love it.

Like ballets and liberals we don't get see many Sigs in these parts ;) but the 239 in 357 Sig happens to be the only one I've shot.

Police officer I know carries one for backup and off duty, I put 3 mags through it just to say I did. Didn't seem to fit my hand all that well (might fit yours great). Personally I found both muzzel blast and flip to be excessive, I could shoot it neither well or quickly in my brief try out.

A 9mm model?? I might show some interest in...

Lone, have you ever shot a SIG P239?

I have two P239s, one in 9mm and the other in .40 but with a SIG brand .357SIG barrel in it most of the time. They just drop in.

IMHO, the SIG P239 is one of the most pleasant shooting .357SIGs. It is easy to shoot well. The DA pull is outstanding, the best of any of my SIGs. The SA pull is very nice. I'm a Glock fan but the P239 makes the DA to SA transition easy.

Hides easy, shoots well. The Hogue grip is a must have for the P239, it changes the ergonomics dramatically.

I don't notice much difference in recoil between 9mm and .357 Sig but you sure notice the difference in the report and muzzle blast. Ammo is expensive but not much more so than .357 magnum. You won't find .357 Sig at Wal-Mart but most decent gunshops are well stocked.

I'll have to agree. My P239 hides very well, and is the most accurate handgun I've ever fired. The thing is a tack driver.

I got rid of my G19 because of bad ergonomics, and IMHO the famously bad Glock trigger pull and settled right into my sig. The DA/SA trigger is easy to master.

I know there was someone here that thought highly of a glock. Rent both. You'll end up buying the Sig Sauer just like everyone else. I also suggest placing a Houge wrap around grip on it. Fits like a glove

The price is good.

The gun is spectacular. It is my best all around CCW. Easy to conceal, extremely accurate, never a malfunction to this point, built like a tank, great trigger. I really cannot say enough good things about it. Mine is in .40 and I give it two thumbs up.

I think it is a much "NICER" gun then a Glock. The Glock however has many merits not the least of which is it's finish and size to capacity. I personally can't stand the triggers though.

Coming form one of the boards resident SIG-O-Holics, you can't go wrong with a SIG.

RE: .357sig ammo

Don't let the price of practice ammo keep you from getting the P239 in .357sig. Georgia Arms http://www.georgia-arms.com/canned.htm sells excellent ammo, very high quality and they have very good prices on .357sig, as well as Gold Dot JHP NEW ammo ($16 per 50rnd).

They will UPS ship to your door :D

G357SB 125gr FMJ $85.00 (500rnds) $159.95(1K rnds)

There's a lotta favorable P239 commentary going here...and I'm only going to add to the chorus! I picked one up in .40, gently-used, back in March. It was $429 with two mags and I picked up a third mag separately.

This was not only my first SIG but my first .40 caliber handgun as well and I've been extremely pleased on all counts.

I sometimes carry mine in a Galco fanny pack holster but more often it rides in a Kramer Confidant holster shirt. I guess this pistol is on the outer-edge of realistic concealability in this rig, but it works like crazy for me. I normally buy my shirts in size XXL anyway, and the extra room lends itself well to my purposes. :)

At some point I'd love to pick up a .357 SIG barrel and some magazines and give that cartridge a try.

Glock triggers - ya either love em or hate em.

I can't figure it out, but I love em.

For me they have just the right amount of (talking about standard 5 pound pull) anticipation of breaking.

And they are consistant between guns and models. That is why I prefer the Glock trigger over the DA/SA autoloader trigger. But that is just me. Shoot what you like. That is the key.

The P239 is a fine pistol and if you like it - you can't go wrong - just not for me.

I have two 239s, one in 9mm and the other in 357SIG.

I'd consider buying the 40S&W conversion barrel for the little thing, but the 357SIG is just too much fun. I got mine a bit cheaper than $500, but your price seems like it is at about the average here in Utah, and Utah on average has lower prices than most of the rest of the country.

Tetchaje's Advice: BUY!!!

(You won't regret it... :) )

Hey Larry, just a suggestion...take a look at the Mini Firestorm, made in Argentina by Bersa. Same dimensions as a Sig P239, with a mag capacity of 10+1 in 9mm and .40. A .45 is available also with a 7+1 round capacity. I've got one in 9mm and it really shoots great, 100% reliable.

Best of all is the price...$325-350 depending on your locale.
