will a 357sig mag work in my 40 s&w p239 with 40 ammo? or is it that one will say 357 sig and the other one will say 40 s&w and that is it. I just bought the gun and only have one mag and I am placing an order at cdnn and they only have the 357 mags. I am also considering buying a 357 sig barrel for it down the line and want to know if the same mags will work for both barrels.
thanks in advance.

If anything is different between the two it would only be the followers,. I CAN tell you this though, my 229 mags say .40/.357 on the side.

It will work but not reliably. Sig's single-stack mags are specific to the caliber. The guys at sigforum.com can tell you more.

They are slightly different. In Sig single stack magazines, there is a small vertical ridge at the front to keep the top round fron nosediving. on the 239 357 magazin, due tothe shorter length of the full diameter section of the 357 casing, the vertical groove is slightly farther back.

Therefore, 40 SW cartridges will not fit in a 357 magazine, 357 cartridges will fit in a 40 magazine, but occasionally will display less than 100% reliability

This is unique to the 239. the 229 and 226 40/357 magazines are the same as the have no such groove. the attached file is a 357 magazine, you can see the groove well.
