it seems the bottom of the barrel near the tip is rubbing on the edge of the hole through which it protrudes and there is a scratch throughth the blueing down to the metal where the barrel meets the edge of the hole...this isn't normal is it?

I suspect you just have normal wear.

Any SIG barrel that has been shot at all will have burnishing (just the bluing worn off, not palpable gouging or scoring) all along the top and bottom of the barrel. When the slide/barrel are in battery, the muzzle end of the barrel is not centered and contacts the bottom of the hole in the slide. All of this is normal.

"Scratch" or "Wear"?

If it's an actual 'scratch', I've not experienced that. That area of the barrel will have some bluing 'worn' or 'rubbed' off through normal use.

Sounds like you have whats called a "smiley" in SIG parlance.

Does it look something like this?

yea thats what it looks like, i'm fairly in experienced with pistols...i've shot rifles and shotguns most of my life and just recently got into the pistols since i got my ccw

Hey, it better look like that, more or less! :D All Sigs do that. Smileys are perfectly normal.

As the owner of 8 Sigs with my 9th (a P239) on the way I'd like to mention that Sigs should be well lubricated on the outside of the barrel, the rails, and all other contact surfaces. They like to run on the "wet" side. Making sure that they're properly lubricated will insure proper/normal mating of surfaces and a near flawless performance. Most Sig "problems" are the simple result of inadequate lubrication.

I've used TW25B for several years with great results:

but there are other good lubricants on the market. I give a shot of BreakFree to the internals.

Very normal.

My first P226 9mm had a 'smiley' so deep you could feel it, but wow, what an accurate pistol.
