When searching it seems that the P239 is always being compared to the G26 for a CCW. It seems to me that the 239 is actually closer in size and purpose to the g19 (g23/g32). What are you folk's opinions of these two weapons and why do you think the 239 is always compared to the g26?

I have a P239 and a G26 and I must say that they should not be compared to each other. The sig is so much heavier and signifigantly larger. The G26 is ridiculously easy to conceal while the P239 is easy but presents a little more challenge. I would say that comparing the P239 with the G19 is a pretty reasonable comparison. I love my P239. It is an all around excellent shooter. I also like my G26 but my enthusiasm is a result of its size and weight and not the overall performance and feel although both are very good.

I'm talking with flush fitting mags for CCW. 15+1.

But who would want to carry a Glock with +1

I know they claim with the right holster but....

Whipping that safetyless chambered gun out in a tense situation...ok....not my cup of tea. I don't like the trigger or trigger safety anyways.

Don't get me wrong I don't think carrying a chambered gun it dangerous if you know what you're doing, that's how I carry my Hi-Power but....well you know what I mean.

What is the difference between carrying a chambered Glock and a chambere Sig P239? Both have firing pin safeties. The rule is to keep your finger off of the trigger until ready to shoot.

Doesn't the Sig 239 have a safety? I thought it did. I don't consider a safety on the trigger to be an actual safety. And if the rule is to keep your finger off the trigger until you shoot, WHAT'S THE POINT OF A SAFETY IN THE FIRST PLACE????? It's for when you have that brain spasm. With a Grock, there's no room for error.

It would be like carrying a chambered 1911 with a 3 pound trigger in an open holster with the safety off everyday.

Do 1911's have firing pin safeties? I don't know very much about them.

Good question. The sig does not have an external safety. If you pull the trigger the gun discharges. If you don't, the gun doesn't discharge. Sounds good to me. If you like the added security provided by an external safety who am I to tell you what to carry? To each his own and all.

This is a thread hijack and I apologize.

The Series 80 1911's have firing pin safeties, the Series 70's don't. And I guess the WWI and other repro's are made like the Series 70's.

Ok, the thing about the Glock though is that with a Sig 239, the first double action pull is much harder, but with a Glock the first pull is more like single action. IMO, the Sig would be much safer chambered. I don't mind guns with just decockers as long as they are true Double Action/Single Action models.

For instance, I'm interested in a decocker only Vertec, but from what I understand they only sell those to LEO's. However the safety is nice too, so I might go that route instead.

Glocks can have 3.5, 5, 8(favored by LEO's),&12# trigger pulls. So, pick what makes you comfy.

The P228 (13+1) is actually more in the G19 league than the P239 (and geared toward the same market).

I am somewhat inclined to agree a bit with WonderNine.

I sometimes think, the Glock would be the perfect handgun, if it had a easy to manipulate manual safety. I don't feel uncomfortable carrying with one in the chamber, but there have been enough AD's holstering, and even pulling from the pocket catching on keys and such, to make me think, a little additional safety might be a good thing.

And god forbid, please not a grip safety as on the XD-9.

and even pulling from the pocket catching on keys and such

Seriously?

I would strongly suggest that no one should carry a glock or any gun in anything other than a quality holster. I understand why people want an external safety but if you don't have the ability to keep your finger off of the trigger then maybe no gun is safe for you. I don't mean for this to be a personal attack, I just don't understand the stigma.

Just in capacity alone, the Glock wins! There's just something very comforting in a compact gun that can potentially carry all those rounds!
