sig P6/225 sight change?

I was pondering this very thing this evening, tagging this to see what advice turns up.

You need a sight removal/install tool made for Sig. These are not cheap and not worth the money if you are only using it once. I say find someone that will lone you the tool in this board and offer some money, pay a gunsmith to do it, or try doing it with a brass punch and risk damaging the slide.

You can get the tool for around $80(same tool as SIG's made by MGW). Its WELL worth the money if you have a number of SIG's, as it works on all but one model, which I believe is the polymer framed gun.
I basically paid for mine by selling the old night sights I removed from two guns on EBay for about $35-40 a set. I'm going to put the two sets of sights I removed from my P6's on there next time I get some stuff together. Not expecting to get the same as the night sights, but I'm sure I'll get a couple of bucks for them.

I changed the sights on my P6 with a brass sight punch and hammer.
The old sights are not tight and come out easily.
New Meprolites need the dovetail fitted just a tad. They are made slightly oversize so they will fit loose slide dovetails.
Just a few swipes on the bottom with a flat fine-cut file, and keep trying them until you can drive them back on with about the same effort it took to drive the old ones off.
It's a 15 minute job at most!

I'd be leery of hammering on the night sights with a hammer and punch. I'm not saying it cant be done, as rc, and I'm sure others, have obviously done it, but if you get a little heavy handed, you could break the vials and your $80 set of night sights are now for scheiße.
I have yet to encounter sights that were loose or easily removed without a fair amount of pressure. Same goes for the ones replacing them.
All of the new Mepros I've put on have been slightly oversized. I run the base of mine across a piece of emery thats flat on the workbench and just barely remove the finish on the base of the sight. That seems to do the trick and the sights are still a firm force fit. If you get carried away and remove to much.... back to for scheiße. DONT file of sand on the edges! Only the base.
One other advantage to the tool, it has witness marks on it that get the sights centered on the slide. I've done about ten guns now with mine, and so far, only had to use it a second time to adjust the rear sight for windage because the sights were not shooting to point of aim.

Got a gunsmith relative that has a SIG Sight Pusher and installed Trijicons on my P229R not that long ago-they were tight!
From what I hear, you can also use the SIG pusher to install XD sights, but when we installed it in the pusher, it looked to me like you would need a second spacer (pusher came with one) to raise the XD slide enough for the pusher to contact the sight low enough for me to be comfortable with it.
Even so, XDs have a reputation of being some of the toughest sights to get off, so rather than chance breaking his pusher (I've read of some folks doing so) I sent the XD slide to XD-HS2000.com-total cost with shipping both ways with insurance via USPS was around $28-no complaints with their work-they may do SIG sight installation also?
Be leery of some of the universal pushers-no doubt there are pretty good ones out there, but I've seen too many "slip" in use, resulting in a nice scratch on your slide!
