I've been seriously thinking about trading my XD40 towards a new Sig Pro. The Sig Pro's start at just $469 around here for the .357 Sig version with the .40 and 9mm version's being a little more. What are the advantages and disadvantages about each? So far it seem's the Sig Pro is harder to fieldstrip but has a better finish and no ejector problem's. Also I see that with the Sig Pro .40's and .357's you can buy barrel's and swap them. I don't believe SA offer's XD barrel's for sale. Anything else to add? Thanks! ;)

I'm in the same boat and seriously leaning towards the SIG PRO based on the things you've mentioned (finish/extractor) and the praise of other forum members.

I'm not familiar w/ this ejector problem you mention. The 3 rental XD's at the range I frequent has seen ALOT of rounds and they're all going strong. Plus, the XD 9 & 357 have been really good shooters.
But, if you've lost confidence in your firearm & you've found alternative, SIG is a good product ;)

There are other things to consider, as well. While it doesn't bother me with any of my SIGs, some people don't care for the DA/SA transition on the SIG. Standard capacity mags are available for the XD. The light rail on the XD is the standard M3 rail (unfortunately proprietary for the SIG Pro... :barf: ...SIG's biggesst mistake, IMO, with that gun...)

With that said, the SIG Pro is a fine weapon and many people swear by them. I would probably still choose the SIG Pro, but that is just me as a SIG kind of guy.

Make sure you won't regret selling of that XD as they are fine weapons, as well. Do you think that it is best just to save up for the SIG so that you can have both?

I second what tetchaje says. I own both an XD-9 and SigPro 9mm. The XD is a little easier to field strip, but not by much. It has a take down lever while you have to take out the slide lock lever on the Sig. I like the trigger pull on the Sig much more than the glocklike pull on the XD, that makes me much more accurate with the Sig.
I actually had a failure-to-eject problem with the Sig when I first got it. Seems like the weapon is too light for the stiffness of the recoil spring. It requires a nice stiff wrist when breaking in.
They are really great guns and I would really suggest owning both.

One thing about the sig pro- they are designed with long service life in mind, so the break-in period is longer.
Mine still doesn't go into battery as cleanly as many I have shot, and I have 2500+ rounds through it.
From what I have seen, the SIGpro is the ultimate compromise in accuracy, safety, usability, and reliability that I can imagine.
There may be better, but not in 357SIG, and not for the $500 that I paid.
Also, make sure you get the factory night sights, an excellent option.

After shooting both I decided on the SigPro in 40. I have the blueline with night sights. It was about $125 more then the XD would have been out the door.

I liked the trigger action on the Sig better in Single Action. When carrying with the hammer down in DA mode if I need to use it I will not notice the difference between a DA and SA pull. I think that the Sig will last longer. I have nothing to base it one just a hunch.

One negative for the SigPro is the non-standard rail. If you have any rail mount accsessories for the XD they wont fit the Sig.

I have never really found a stiker fired gun that I like the trigger feel of.
I own a Steyr and while I like it the Sig get special attention.

Keep the XD

Although there is nothing wrong with the Sig, I'd recommend you keep the XD.

Aside from the extractor issue, which has been resolved, the XD is a fine weapon. The only downside is that you have no second-strike capability should you encounter a hard primer.

If you're still set on the Sig Pro, try it first. If your hands are like mine the Sig grip may be a bit on the large side.

I've noticed that some of you keep saying "the extractor problem" no matter how many threads I've said "EJECTOR problem" in. I've never mentioned the extractor problem which I believe was fixed by SA when they took over the XD. I'm talking about the EJECTOR problem. Don't mean to to make a big deal but it seem's I'm constantly being misquoted. A few times in this thread already again. I do thank you'll for the info though. ;)

"I finally recieved my replacement ejector and was supprised to find it shorter and angled at the end compared to my old ejector which was squared on the end. Is this the "new style" ejector that I keep hearing about?" Emann, this is a recent post by a member at the XD forum. Don't know if this makes you feel better about your XD or if you had seen this. Seems like springfield might be making a different ejector. Mark

As far as XD issues go..

1) Don't use altered pre-ban mags made for other guns
2) Don't slam your mags into the gun like you're trying to melt the plastic in the base pad to the plastic on the grip

Voila! No ejector problem!

I'd take the XD over the SIG simply because of manual of arms (I dislike the decocker/slide release being "backwards" on the SIG), as well as not liking the DA/SA transition. The XD is a great weapon.

I have 5 XD-40 mags and none of them touch the ejector. Nor do the rounds loaded in the mags. I only use factory mags for my XD.

You know, people hear about one or two defective examples among hundreds and hundreds of a line and then think every one of them might be defective. But what they're not hearing is the hundreds of satisfied customers. I work in a warranty repair department and for every product failure there are thousands of folks I never hear from because the product works fine for them. On average, you can expect a few out of a given number to fail or break at some point close to the purchase date. Nothing is perfect. Even Sig has a warranty repair department. :D

I'm a converted fan of the sig pro. I was looking for a good platform for the 357SIG. I looked at the XD, a Glock, the SIG P229/P226/239, and the sig pro.

I chose the sig pro simply because it fit my hand well, and I got a good deal on a used one with a bunch of mags and nightsights.

The pistol is surprisingly pleasant to shoot, and is pretty accurate. The trigger is wonderfully crisp, and the DA trigger seems smoother than my classic SIGs. The take-down that everyone harps on is similar to many pistols including the Kahr, 1911, HKUSP, CZ, etc. The grip change available widens it's appeal to different hand-sized shooters.

Biggest shortcomings are the propriety rail and the inability to use classic P-series SIG mags.

As a bonus, the sig pro 2340 in either 357SIG or 40S&W would make a great three-caliber gun, as I am eagerly awaiting the Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel for it.

Yea railroader I read that but noticed he hasn't yet answered everyone's question. Does the new ejector he received make a difference as far as if it touches the magazine lip's or not. Also when a few people called SA about the ejector issue SA just said yea we know and we will replace it when it breaks. Nothing about a new ejector or anything. Seem's they would've mentioned it. So who know's if this is really a new type ejector or not. Seem's like alot of people post over at HS2000talk and then you don't hear from them ever again or at least not for quite a while sometimes with an answer.
