Have I missed something about Sig having issues with warranty and some upgrade that costs $129 that should be under warranty anyway.

I have a P220 that I bought new in 1998. I would take it to the range once in a while, but it mostly sat in my safe. Recently I opted to use this pistol for my CCW. I took it to the range on a fairly consistent basis but started to have failure to feed issues anytime it got the least bit dirty. I tried several different lubricants, purchasing new 8 rd. magazines, and replacing the recoil spring, but the results were the same. I only put about 1500 rds through this pistol, so I know that springs aren't the issue. I called Sig today and informed them of the problems I was having and before I was through talking the customer service rep was trying to sell me this service plan for $129.00. I told them that I was not interested and that I simply wanted Sig to honor its so-called lifetime warranty. The customer service rep then attempted to sell me this song and dance about the gun being old and that the springs probably "settled" in storage even though the gun only had 1500 rds through it. I've heard a lot of fairy tales in my 49 years of life, but this story of springs settling while a gun sits in a safe is the best B.S. story yet. This is simply a case of a company trying to make money on a warranty that they imply is free when someone is shopping for a firearm. The reality of this situation is that this is a bait and switch scam of which I refuse to be a part of. This so-called pistol (actually paperweight) is going to be promptly traded off tomorrow morning for a pisol that actually fuctions as it should. The rest of my Sigs will be joining this gun shortly thereafter because I just don't need guns that are this sensitive to "storage". Also I prefer to do business with a company that at least honors the warranties that it boasts about. But, if you want a jamamatic and a fairy tale to boot, give Sig a try. Good luck and goodnight ladies and gents.

Oh my!!:what: Now thats unbelievable. Not to put too fine a point on this but lets see.........$129. A spring breaks, the most expensive spring is probably what,$5? Spring Kit(including all springs)is what $20? To add to that everygun manufacturer probably advertises and touts how strong and rugged and long lasting their guns are and bets you buy their product for just that reason.

Tisk Tisk Sig. :uhoh:

That's not service

Ouch, Well, no Sigs for me. I did like my neighbors 220 at the range, but I only put ~20 rounds of my handloads through it. Ran great.

Springs don't settle in storage, that statement is a load of horse hockey. If they did, they were improperly designed. As a college student in mechanical engineering, we went through lots of spring design exercises. One of the primary design rules in coil springs is that if it is fully compressed, it must bounce back to it's original initial unsprung length. Not within microns mind you, but probably a couple hundredths. If it does not do this, the design needs to be correceted until it does. I assure the Germans know this rule and follow it, they probably invented this design rule.

The only way your springs would be altered at all in that few of cycles would be if it were exposed to an environment causing it to corrode or of glowing red hot heat. Both of which were never present in your safe.

This is just one person's story, posted on the internet.

I personally have had excellent response from SIG customer service, and I know many people have posted on SIG forum with similar experiences. The only function problem I ever had with a SIG was due to work done by a non-SIG gunsmith. SIG fixed the problem at no charge to me, despite the fact that the non-factory gunsmithing was a warranty violation.

If you scan through these internet boards, you can find these kind of threads involving every make and model of gun out there. Somebody had trouble with his Springfield and got into a shouting match with the customer service rep. Somebody else got a lemon Smith and Wesson and he's mad at them for life. Another guy had bad luck with a Kimber.

I take all these things with a grain of salt.

An anti-SIG post on GLOCKTalk? I'm shocked, I tell you ... shocked.
But, if you want a jamamatic and a fairy tale to boot, give Sig a try.
Quite hilarious. But, well, for those of us who've been issued SIGs for serious work and owned and used 'em half our lives, we know better. For those who want to believe a lone anonymous post on the internet, go for it.

I'm with Antsi on this one; I've had no bad experiences with SIG's customer service and consider SIG to be one of the top three factories to deal with. I'm surprised some of you seem so willing to believe everything you read on the internet when you have no personal experience with a particular manufacturer.

Ok, kinda figured it was an isolated incident or BS.

An anti-SIG post on GLOCKTalk

Why not? There's lots of anti GLOCK on THR! Not surprising because it's infested by 1911 people. :D

$129 just to cover springs that's a bit steep. I wonder if this 'lifetime warranty' only covers original purchaser which I can understand.

I'll help out!

<<<Oh! No! I just ordered a 220. Maybe I should call and cancel now. Blah!>>>

No, I'll volunteer to help you out. Send it to me and I'll even pay your postage! :)

Everything I've read suggests the P220 is one of the best guns out there. I'd love to have one but I don't really need another .45!

I have a Sig 226, 228 and 230 and they have all been very reliable!
