Sig Sauer handguns

My first handgun was a Sig Sauer P226 9mm. This was some 20 years ago. I've since acquired about 6 more Sigs. I just can't say enough great things about them. Very accurate, have NEVER failed on me for any reason. They fit my hand like a glove.

When I went on my polymer craze I tried to like Glocks, but I did not find them comfortable in my hands. While the G19 is rumored to be a great gun, I didn't shoot well with it. I tried a Glock in .40 S&W (my preferred caliber) and didn't like them.

I shoot USPSA and have yet to see a Sig fail where as I have seen one Glock and one CZ fail.

I will confess that despite my love for Sigs, I prefer my M&P over my Sig Pro2022 in a polymer gun.

For concealed I love my P239 and full sized goes hands down to the P226ST.

in 9mm the P228 is about the best darn gun I've ever owned and shot. It's a great meeting between size, performance, and capacity. One of the most perfectly balanced firearms I've ever owned.

Sigs have long been thought of as the Cadillac of Production Handguns. Right out of the box they are ready to rock and roll.

They are not cheap, but quality never is.

I agree with what ever one has said. I have been looking at guns for a few years. I had lil 25. I felt to under gunned. I have looked at every thing form a high point to a Kimber. I went with a P6 and am very happy with it. It is true they or like a tattoo you cant stop with one. I am aready looking at a 226 40

I don't own a Sig, but the P226 .40 I borrowed was one of the most accurate pistols I've ever fired.

I know there are a lot of responses already, but here is my $.02.

SIGs recoil differently than clocks. The SIG’s barrel is on a higher plane above your wrist than the Glock barrel. Therefore, the SIG rotates with leverage against you easier when it recoils. The .40S&W can be a little unruly in a SIG for a more inexperienced shooter. The Glock has a kinder learning curve, too. The Glock is DAO (not going to argue this…to me it is DAO) and the SIG is DA/SA. I think the DA/SA design is the best ever for carry, be it CC or duty. However, you have a couple more gadgets on a SIG to incorporate in to practice with the pistol than the Glock because of this.

You really can’t go wrong with either pistol, I have to say.

You can also now get .22 conversion kits for the 229 and 226.
Hadn't seen this before, thanks for the info... checked it out on SIG's site. MSRP is $369 - will have to see what dealers are selling it for.

My first Sig Sauer was a P220 Compact. I bought a Sig because someone else had a P220 and asked if I wanted to try it. Aw Jeez! WOOT! I still smirk when I shoot it. It makes me look great at the range. I've had the privilege of shooting other Sigs in .40, .357sig, 9 and of course 45's. The important thing is not whether it will be a good firearm; that is pretty much a given. The important thing is how it feels in your hand. That goes for most any firearm out there. If it doesn't feel "right", put it down and walk away. Don't try to sell yourself on it. There are plenty of other firearms out there. As for CPO Sigs: I'd buy one in a heartbeat. BTW: my next Sig will be a 357sig. I've got a U.S. Sky Marshal to thank for that. He insisted I run 100 rounds through his beat up, rusty levered Sig. Hooked, I am. Good luck to you.

I just got a used surplus Sig 226 9mm from Bud's for $369. It was looking worn (but it coldblued nice and black again). I bought it because it was cheaper than most, held 15 rounds, and I was curious about Sigs.

I've got a lot of guns by anyone's standard (like 23 1911 pistols, and a good sampling of most anything anyone wants to mention) but the only Sig I'd ever owned is a 232.

I gotta' say that I'm VERY impressed with this 226. It went through three magfuls without a hiccough and I was surprised at how clean the single action trigger breaks. Great smooth easy double action too, and even a controllable decocker. Accurate, and a nice soft felt recoil too - a very pleasurable pistol to fire.

I'm a new convert I think - this old pistol is damned good!

I decided to get back into handguns about 6 months ago and did all kinds of research and spoke to many people to get opinions of various makes and models. I went to Bass Pro shop and handled many different models. I went in thinking Glock all the way. After determining what felt more natural in my hand I decided on the Sig P250, then went price shopping as Bass Pro is not shy about their pricing models. Now 6 months later I own 5 Sigs, I added a Mosquito and 3 P-6's (which are a great deal). The bottom line is that no matter what you decide on just make sure it feels natural in your hand. My next will most likely be a 220 Elite, well if I can stash some cash that is...

I think people by Sigs because they feel like Feds when they shoot and carry them. Stick with the Glocks. It's a much better handgun in my opinion.

That's like saying people that buy 1911s feel like prohibition-era mobsters, or people that buy AR15s feel like they're in 'nam, or people who buy AKs want to hold them over their head and yell WOLVERINES!

Glocks are fine weapons, I have a G19 as my primary carry weapon myself...but I've gotta say I prefer my P229 and it has nothing to do with feeling like a "Fed". If I wanted to do that, I'd apply to become one.

I gotta get an AK.

The neighbors think I'm totaly weird standing outside holding a broom over my head yelling WOLVERINES.

I feel like I'm still in Nam all the time AR or no AR, but what's this about Wolverines?

I had a west german 226 in 9mm as one of my first hand guns. The thing never failed. I sold it for a smaller 239 also in 9mm which I had for a long time. They're fantastic guns. If you ever have a problem with them, Sig are fabulous to deal with(I sent my mosquito back to them once and received it back in less than two weeks).

I would try before you buy.*(Hindsight 20/20 for me hehe)* that way, you can determine if you like it, are accurate with it etc. Try all sorts of ammo if you can. I have a rule with my guns. They have to eat FMJ and HP's reliably. You MAY want to defend your life with one!

Yeah, that’s the only reason I got one-only problem is I’m a cheap (pragmatic) bastard and just wouldn’t shell out the money. As luck would have it, my local shop got a deal on a P229R so I bought it-now I feel like a (cheap) Fed every time I shoot it, but hey, it’s all good!

‘Course, feeling like a Fed will only get you so far-wasn’t long before I tired of that. Lately I’ve been feeling “gangsta”, and for some reason I have a compelling urge to buy a Glock FOH-TAY!
Also, the feeling of smug superiority knowing “I’m the only person in the room PRO-fessional enough” just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Whazzup wi’ dat?

About a month ago I purchased a P226 9mm, and loved it. The first day I shot 250 rounds through it without a single glitch. I would have kept going but I ran out of those little explody things. Since then I've shot about 750, still no problems.

A week ago, I purchased a P239 9mm (which is smaller than the 226). First day I shot 200 and had to stop. At about 150 my wrist standing hurting a bit from recoil and I limp wristed a couple of times. But that was operator fatigue. Other than that, it was perfect, and wildly accurate. Though at the end, I was having some difficulty at 25 yards.

I have a 220ST Elite (45) and a P556 on order. The P556 is just for grins. It is a pistol that fires 223/556. That should be fun.

Sigs are at the top of the pile. When you have a Sig, you really can't a much better mass produced gun with readily available mags, grips, parts, etc.

I am a CZ guy. Love these things. But I recently bought a Sig P-220 and on the first outing, shot this 220 better than I have been shooting my CZ-97B, and I have fired over 3,000 rounds through this 97. DA-YUM!!

A gun doesn't get to be one of my favorites because of brand name, or what the Fed's carry, or because their cool. My favorites have gotta by God earn it.

Sigs have earned their reputation. Period.

A pop culture reference from a little 1980s World War III movie staring Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayzee called "Red Dawn".

Another stereotype, this time against Glock fans...

but what's this about Wolverines?

From what I understand, it's become a bit of a cult film among teenagers?
I got it on DVD a few months back-not a bad movie to watch once in a while, but I got it for the extras, mainly the interview with the director. Interesting hear him talk 'bout how he pretty much got blacklisted after making a "pro-gun" movie!

Sig Sauer recommends replacing the recoil spring every 5000rds or every 6 years of use.....which ever comes first.

What if you used it once during the prescribed six year period? Seems like advice that is a little too inclusive to me.

Laughed so hard I couldn't quit coughing for a couple minutes!

Homeboy Nite Sites! Oh you guys are killin' me! :) I'm goin' back to my recliner to be sick and miserable...

I own A Sig 226 .40, also the .357 Sig barrel to drop in it. I also have a 228 in 9mm. Quick antecdote on my becoming a SIG MAN....I was shooting at a military regional match in VT, using the rack grade Beretta 92. Took the precision match handily and the combat match too. After the match, the Range OIC came over and was talking to our team. Said he had one of his officers(he is a police chief for a living and me and half my team are cops) there who wanted to shoot and coach us. Besides that, he had to use up a partially open case of 9mm. Turns out his officer was none other than Massad Ayoob!!! Well, out came everyones carry guns as well. I saw one of the Green Mtn. Boys had a P228. I asked if I could try it out. Sure he said. I then fired 5 rounds at 25 yds. with the Beretta. You could cover it with a soup can lid. Then I fired 5 rounds from the Sig 228.....****!!!!! I covered those holes with a silver dollar!!! INSTANTLY I HAD TO HAVE ONE!!!!! Took me 3-4 yrs to find a 228 but when I found it...BAM!!! It went with me.
By the way....I have XS Big Dots on both my Sigs. Great investment for these guns.

From a known Glock Troll, we'll take that for what it's worth. Thanks for playing.
