I recently bought an early 9mm P226.
It had only one magazine. The magazine is unmarked.
I have been looking online for replacement 9mm magazines.
The SIG Sauer marked OEM 15 round 9mm mags are scarce & expensive.
My next choice would be the 18 round 9mm Mec Gar magazines.
Do the 18 rounders work? How far do they protrude from the bottom?
I see plenty of Pro Mag magazines for a very low price, & this low price raises a red flag.
Do the Pro Mag 9mm magazines work?
What are your experiences?
I need some guidance.

Thank You for your reply! :)

As to Mec-gar, they are the maker used for the new P226S guns. Now as to pro-mag, I have purchased several guns with pro-mag magazines thrown in. Off the top of my head can't think of one that could be emptied without some sort of malfunction. This is from my experiences and maybe someone else has had better luck with pro-mag mags.

Thank you for the advice! :)

I just ordered two Mec Gar 18 rounders from Brownells.
Brownells ran a promotion this week with $15. off of my order.
I needed some 1911 parts anyway.................

The Mec-Gar 18 rounders are flush fit, but to me there is a very small gap and stick out slightly.

Another vote for the MecGars sold by GregCoteLLC.

Greater capacity, lower cost, equal reliability: how could you do better?

The Mec-Gars, having previously been the OEM supplier for SIG, make an excellent product.

They use the same body as the former OEM mags, but their springs nest differently.

The Mec-Gar have a better track record for function than the current OEM supplier (Checkmate), but I understand it is improving.

I recently bought 2 15 round MecGars for my P228 and I picked up a 16 round MecGar for my CZ 75B, these are finished nicer and are cheaper than the factory mags for both guns, and both factory mags are made by MecGar anyway.

As MAKster notes, Top Gun Supply also has excellent prices for the Mec-Gar 18-rounders.

WHY would one pay twice as much for the factory 15-rounders when the Mec-Gars are so good? And the Mec-Gar 15-rounders for the 228 and 229 are likewise superb.

Run away, run away fast, from any Pro Mag product, especially for handguns ...

Friends don't let friends buy ProMags.

Both TGS and Greg Cote are great vendors to deal with, and both ship scary fast.

MecGars are great. They supply factory mags for Sig, FN, Beretta and probably others.

ProMags, do not work, in any gun, ever.

Someone mentioned ProMags for failure drills. I guess they do have a use.

I have and use 18 round Mec Gar mags in my P226 9mm....... no issues what so ever and as for Pro Mag. The only way I end up with Pro Mags is if they came in a package deal for a gun I wanted. First thing I do is get rid of them.... They cost lest because they are cheap.... avoid them. Mec Gar makes quality mags for a number of big name manufacturer's, Sig being one of them.

After The Incident, I bought Mec Gar magazines for my P226. They are well made and feed reliably.

I had some Promags for my P220 and they did ok in my gun but not a friend's. I wouldn't take the chance.
