I bought a universal adjustment tool and was wondering how tight can a crank it down without damaging my slide? I am having problems with slide twisting when i try to apply enough pressure to move the sights.

I was working on my Ruger SR9c because the sights were not centered and it was shooting off to the left. I used a bore mounted laser to center them. I have not used a sight adjuster tool before and was afraid of putting too much pressure on the slide and damaging or warping it So the question was actually a general all slide question. I did loosen the set screw on the rear sight, the front did not have one :)

It is unlikely you can put enough pressure on a slide with a universal sight pusher clamp to damage the slide.

But it is even more unlikely a 'universal sight pusher' will fit more then one or maybe two brands of guns properly, so damage is possible.

You should have bought a dollar two ninety eight brass punch and a small hammer.

Thats worked for me on everything including night sights, for 50 years in the shop.

When I am forced to clamp a slide real tight in a drill or mill vice?

I machine a brass or steel filler block to support the slide rails from the inside first.
