Why is it that most rifle manufacturers spec their rifle out with that rinky-dink rear sight leaf located in the middle of the barrel? Why not a sturdy aperature sight located at the rear of the receiver...wouldn't have to be a target grade. The sight radius would be much improved and visual acuity also much better for just about everyone.

Even if the put an inexpensive rear sight from one of the current sight makers it wouldn't add more than $30-50 to a rifle.....and on a $300 rifle that's not much.

Comments please!

i wish they'd quit putting open sight garbage on rifles at all.

but, since we're stuck w/ the things, i'd prefer if the screws were as small and unobtrusive as possible so they didn't look so ugly on the gun when i pull 'em off. guess it does look better than having the sights on there, though.

Hmmmm...It's lonely being the only one who doesn't like lousy iron sights.;)

"...that rinky-dink rear sight leaf located in the middle of the barrel?..." They less expensive to make. Commercial manufacturers know most of their rifles will be scoped and the factory sight will be removed or used as a back up so they put an inexpensive sight on. If they put one on at all.
Aperature sights cost more.

Indeed, though I know most people scope them (sissies! :neener: ). Thank God for my Brownells discount and Williams receiver sights.
