where im lining up my rifle I can only shoot around 50 yds.Id like it a inch high @ a 100 yds.How high would I need to sight it at 50

its a 308 win so far at 30 yds making 1 ragged hole about 1/4 high
have shot 3 federal power shok 150's and 3 win 150 power points

If you want to hit 1" high at 100yds with that, then at 50 yds you should be shooting dead center.

Shooting 1" high at 100yds would make for about a 170yd zero BTW.

Jogar im about a 1/4 high I stepped it off roughly 45 yds should I drop it a click

im cleaning it now will drop it and go back and fire 3 more rounds I will still take it somewhere where can shoot farther before hunting season

i assume a scoped rifle but I have no idea what scope or more importantly what rings and bases. Barrel length and type of rifle is going to be important. An AR-10 with a scope might shoot over the target if you are sighted in at 30 yards. A typical bolt gun with medium mount rings and 22" barrel will be about an .5-1" high if sighted in at 30 yards.

Awww.... Did you miss spell shot?:D Try dead on at 50, should give you a 200yard zero, but you'll never know till you get out to 200 with it.

If I were limited to a 50 yard range I'd zero dead on at 50 yards and hope for the best. That "SHOULD" have you slightly high at 100 and close enough to hit at 200 with no hold over. But you never know for sure until you actually shoot at those ranges. The computer ballistic programs are just to give you a general idea.

But very minor errors don't show up at 50 yards. You might appear to be perfectly zeroed until you get out to 100 yards or farther and find you are 2-3" off. If possible I use the 50 yard zero just to ensure I'm hitting paper at longer ranges. I then fine tune at longer ranges, then come back to 25 and 50 yards just to see where I'm hitting.
